Peacefull nature, lavender perfume beginning of July in the field behind the chapel ND de l ortiguière après Simiane la Rotonde, visit the small village of Aurel, visit Monieux and take the road to Saturnin les Apt, passing by "gorges" through an impressive landscape, varying in every turn you make. Take 50 minutes time to walk from the Mill to the castel following green painted dots. Also go to Saignon. Have dinner at Celinà in Oppède. Enjoy.

We had a very pleasant day out driving through the Luberon national park. We had a very detailed Michelin map of the area and we simply wound our way along the smaller roads, keeping as near to the centre of the park as we could. We did not see much in the way of wildlife but the scenery was very picturesque.

For lunch we stopped at Bonneiux which is an absolutely lovely little hilltop town. We had a very pleasant lunch at restaurant Cesar and there are several other restaurants in the town with excellent reviews on Tripadvisor.

Certainly in May you do need to come prepared for very variable weather if you visit this part of France. On some days we had very heavy rain and on others extremely hot sunshine.

Enjoy the countryside of Provence. This park is a great place to enjoy the outdoors and the beauty of the French countryside.

Like may places in France, the scenery is great, especially under the fall sunlight, but this place is beautiful all year round. When there, look for the old vineyards and buy some local wine.

I would say this in one of my 3 favorite regions of the world, packed with history, nature and culture. It is beautiful during all times of the year highly recommended during the 'off-months' as it can be crowded July-August. there is so much to see and to do one needs several visits to half way know the area. don't be scared to book 2 weeks - there is lots of people coming back each year for such a period! we stayed at Mas La Bellevue where we love it. there is a huge market in Apt every Saturday morning - highly recommended - parking difficult but well worth it!

Sault is by far the nicest town in the region. A drive through narrow roads is a must do during the summer, despite the heat (almost 40 celsius / 100 farenheit).

The tranquil beauty of Luberon is something that you will never forget... Old perched villages, like Gordes, beautiful trails, delightful drive on the twisty and curvy roads with nice picnic spots - just spectacular... We loved Gordes - a touristy place, but surprisingly not crowded in May (we were very lucky to find parking right away; it may not be the case in high season). We walked on the narrow path along the old fortifications, enjoyed sweeping vistas of the valley with towering emerald cypress trees and bright pink flowers adorning the mighty walls, turned into the maze of narrow old streets...There are also nice shops selling textiles typical to this area and other busy shops selling wine, local produce, galleries, etc.
We drove to the delightful Abbey de Senanque from Gordes; both the drive and the Abbey are lovely.

Lovely area , lots of ancient hilltop villages , lovely food walking paths well sign posted and easy to follow . Some paths a little overly rock strewn by parc maintenance which made underfoot conditions hard in places .

Be sure to drive around the Luberon. Regarding the views is very rewarding and quite beautiful. For lavender come in July but I can recommend a lavender field en route to Sault on the top of a hill that was full in bloom in second week of August. Great vineyards in the lower parts. Not too difficult for driving. Rent a car!

Explore hilltop villages, morning markets, see poppies, cherries, lavender, grape vines, sun flowers, apricots, figs of the Luberon. Choose between main highway or little winding roads. Baguettes, picnics. What's not to love?
