- MeredithAussieMelbourne, Australia1,944 contributionsThe Chef of Kings, the King of ChefsWhat a great find! Luckily I had GPS in the car to help me find this place and a nearby carpark at the top of the hill near the church and castle. It was just a short walk down to the museum through the narrow passageways and stairways. The museum is a treasure-trove of information about French culinary arts, and in particular Auguste Escoffier. It is well laid out and fairly well captioned, but paying the extra 3 euros for an audio guide is a very good investment. If you have any interest in the history of French cuisine, this is a must-see attraction. I particularly loved looking at the historic menus on the top floor!Dear Meredith, Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us and with Internet users. Your compliments go straight to our hearts. Your positive feedback encourages us to continue our missions of conservation and transmission of French culinary heritage. They are several carparks nearby the Museum. We propose to our visitors to park their cars in the Pôle Culturel Auguste Escoffier and follow on foot the “Balade Escoffier” (Escoffier Walk).Written November 6, 2020This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited February 2020Written August 1, 2020
- Molndal130 contributionsCharming museum for anyone interested in the art of cookingCharming museum! The birth house of Auguste Escoffier, the most famous of all chefs. This is a history less well as an aesthetic experience. Signs are in english as well as french and there's an audio guide which enhances the visit. Small but fun. Very friendly staff and we were also given a cup of Peach Melba for free (summer 2021). The village of Villeneuve-Lobet itself is also worth a visit, a medieval town with a fortress. If you are at or can get to the train station of Cagnes sur Mer, you can get the bus 500 towards Grasse from there which will get you to Villeneuve- Loubet in only 5 minutes (and for only 1,50 euros).Hello, Thank you very much for taking the time to share your visit with us. We are delighted that you enjoyed your visit to our museum. - Guy MLondon, United Kingdom2 contributionsVery good museum to the delights of French cuisineA surprisingly interesting and well displayed museum to the memory of the great chef, with also a good deal of history about how French cuisine came to dominate the kitchens of the 20th century. A very pleasant surprise at the end was to be given in the courtyard a delicious peche melba ice cream. The audio guide was well worth the 3 euro extra cost.Hello, Thank you very much for taking the time to share your visit experience. This museum is a must visit for anyone who loves French cuisine and is interested in its roots. The front desk offered a warm and knowledgeable welcome. Audio support was available in several languages. We were delighted by the termination: peach melba for each visitor!

The museum is made with much love and care, and the staff is super friendly and welcoming to children. A little quiz for our daughter kept her entertained. Do get the audio guides for additional information. A lovely surprise at the end with a yummy sampling of Escoffier’s peche melba. Absolutely recommend!

My third visit to Musée Escoffier. Very nice museum. Albeit rather small there is much to see and learn.
The chocolate room (refridgerated!) with sculptures and art pieces made entirely of chocolate and sugar are spectacular.
Small shop at the entrance where you can buy some "kitchen stuff" (towels, napkins etc) with the Escoffier name embroidered.
Generous opening times, but closed between 13-14. Check times on their site.
Entrance 6 EUR (2022).

If you’re into restaurants that specialise in French cuisine or cooking it at home, a visit to the birthplace of the chef that many consider the “father” of modern French cuisine is well worth a visit.
Located in the 18th-century Provençal house in the old town, or village area, in Villeneuve-Loubert, where Auguste Escoffier was born and raised, the Museum of Culinary Art is a splendid way to get to know the life and times of the “Chef of Kings and the King of Chefs” and the history of French cuisine at large.
Afterwards, it was a treat to enjoy the museum’s complimentary “Peach Melba”, which Chef Escoffier invented in the late 1900s to honour the Australian soprano, Nellie Melba.

Very helpful at reception desk. Not expensive - 6 Euros plus 3 for excellent aidio guide. Extremely interesting and well laid out. Loved it. Didnt appreciate the film at the end...too many chefs de cuisine wanting to talk about themselves and not responding to the question actually put to them! But it didnt detract from an excellent visit!

This museum was so enjoyable to walk round with a listening guide. I throughly enjoyed the experience and I will certainly be returning because there is so much to see. One of the rooms has everything about chocolate and when you walk in the aroma of chocolate is gorgeous. The village is beautiful too. I highly recommend it.

If you ever studied in a French influenced cooking school you definitely heard of Auguste Escoffier and his contribution to the French culinary world the way we know it now. It’s a wonderful little museum where he was born and grew up, so interesting to see some of his real life belongings, such as his books and letters and menus ...
The English translation speakers were very helpful too. Walking around the old village of Villeneuve-Loubet is beautiful too.

I have just left the Escoffier Museum in the village of Villeneuve Loubet and what a lovely experience that was! If you visit Villeneuve you should go to the old village to see this museum. Auguste Escoffier of Peach Melba fame used to live in this house and one of the chefs he trained founded a museum in the house. You are warmly welcomed by the staff there and it really is a reminder of the world of detailed refinement that these grand chefs lived in, and some still do. Everything is interesting, however, as a chocoholic I was particularly impressed by the chocolate sculptures kept in a carefully chilled and protected room. There is also a room dedicated to the international culinary competition, the Bocuse d'Or, founded by Paul Bocuse. And to round off this foodie experience the museum offers all its guests a peach melba dessert on the small peaceful terrace adjacent to the museum. Mmmm. If top cuisine is of interest to you this museum is an obligatory visit. Then you should wander around the old town and go up to the chateau on the hilltop. Go!

I prefer small museums, but I sometimes find myself, as a result, in dusty dark places with poor lighting!
This is not the case with the delightful Musée Escoffier de l'Art Culinaire in Villeneuve-Loubet. It is pleasantly designed, well lighted, and very up to date, while occupyng the original house of Escoffier's birth.
There are historical items that relate to French cuisine in general and provençal cooking in particular, but, of course, the bulk of the items reflect the influence and importance of the evolution of haute cuisine française, and its popularizer, Auguste Escoffier.
There is an amazing assemblage of sculpture made from chocolate and other sweet materials. I had no idea sugar was so stable! There is a small locomotive, made out of sugar, on display, that is close to 100 years old. The smell of chocolate in this gallery is over-powering, so don't go just before a meal....
Another special feature is the menu collection. It is fun to browse through the years and see what outstanding meals were served in grand hotels, fabled restaurants and on ocean liners.
If you are interested in French cooking, this museum is certainly worth the trip.
To clarify, Villeneuve-Loubet is separate and different from Villeneuve-Loubet Plage. Villeneuve-Loubet, the old town, is several kilometers inland from Villeneuve-Loubet Plage, which is right on the Route du Bord de Mer, between Cagnes-Sur-Mer and Biot. The Tourism Office in Villeneuve-Loubet Plage has maps of the area. There is public transportation, but it is a bit of a challenge if you are only in the area for a short time. It is possible to walk/hike or bike from the beach up to the old town, about 3 km, along the Loup River.
Sadly, this attraction is not handicapped accessible. The old town of Villeneuve-Loubet is a minor village perché, with winding, steep, narrow passages. The museum itself is on many levels, with no ramps or elevators.
Parking is always difficult, and may be nearly impossible in the tourist season. Villeneuve-Loubet has several public lots, and, if you don't mind walking a bit, you might find parking at the Pôle Culturel Auguste Escoffier, the large and impressive local cultural center.

Hi how can I get there from the train station in nice ? Many thanks
Hello, you can take the train from Nice to Cagnes-sur-Mer. The station is 30 minutes walk from the Museum. It's closer than the station "Villeneuve-Loubet".
Or, you can take the bus n°500 from Nice to Grasse. The bus stop is "Villeneuve-Loubet Village" and it is located 2 minutes walk from the Museum.

Dear Scottish Lady,
You can take the train from Nice to Cagnes-sur-Mer (closer than the train station of Villeneuve-Loubet) and after you have a 30 minutes walk to the Museum.
Then, we advise you to take the bus 500 from Nice to the station 'Villeneuve-Loubet Village" and you will be at only a 5 minutes walk from the Museum.
We confirm you that we have toilets. Unfortunately, as we are situated in an old village house, we don't have an elevator and the house is distributed over 5 floors.
If you have others questions, you can contact us at the +334.93.20.80.51
We hope that we can welcome you soon to the birthplace of Auguste Escoffier.

We are staying in Paris this coming March of 1 week. How difficult would it be for us to find transportation to the Mussee de l'Art Culinare for a group of 12 people? Approximately what is the distance in miles?
Thanks

With the quality of museums in Paris, I'm not sure it's worth a trip to Villeneuve Loubet for the Escoffier culinary museum.
You will need to travel to Nice via train (about 11 hours) or via airplane (1.5 hours - about 150 Euros), than a taxi or an Uber to Villeneuve Loubet (about 30 minutes).
