There are a few hiking routes on St Jean Cap Ferrat. I took a bus from Nice and got off at the last stop in St Jean Cap Ferrat. The tourism office was just a few steps from the bus stop so it would really help you if you got a map there. The nice people in there will also tell you where the start of the hiking routes are. I did the longest route which wasn't even tough. It was easy and the view was incredibly stunning.
You can even swim halfway through the hike as there are steps down to the sea at certain stops. Bring water and snacks if you want to stop halfway just to enjoy the view. There is no toilet on the trail so get your bladder emptied before you start.
Photos are unedited. It's even more beautiful in life. Go and enjoy this hike. You will not regret it.

There are many diversions along the Sentier du Littoral, one of which is the path from Saint-Jean-cap-Ferrat. they call it a hike, but a stroll is more like it. Be aware there is no shade along your jaunt so hang a bottle of water in your backpack and your swimming gear & towel because the heat and the blue of the water is intoxicating.
You've no doubt gained a reasonable tan by now,so the hike around the Cape is an Eden where geraniums compete with hibiscus, jasmine, bougainvillaea, roses, wisteria and citrus flowers to not only perfume the air,but sit heavily on hedges and walls. The privacy they create is matched by their showcasing the villas behind them.
You will see lots of "keep out" signs on gates but its a public path so press on and enjoy the excursion. We started at The beach in front of the Hotel-Royal-Riviera after exploring delightful Braulieu- Sur- Mer. You are now on the path called Prom Maurice Rouvier, which meanders past lots of pink coloured villas some boasting their own harbours. There's a plethora of beauty not only heightened by the bluest waters of the cape but by gorgeous gardens that belong to fab villas.
Shortly we arrive at the picture-licious fishing village of saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat where an aparo, caffeine or ice-cream is suitable action as you case out one of the cutest village shops and cafes on the Riviera. the Tromp l'Oeil flowers painted around door of the Town hall is a busy photo-op junction. It was not only Matisse who was captivated by the purity of the light here. the interplay of light and colour in the marina, with turquoise and teal-blue boats bobbing up and down is mesmerising. a pad will set you back a zillion. In fact, its Russians cashed- up that are the biggest grinners here.
Stay on Ave.Jean Mermoz, past the Hotel Brise Marine until you hit Paloma Beach, one of the sweet-spot coves on the coast and definitely where i would have moored my imaginary yacht. We lunched here and took a dip for a magnificent feeling.
Follow Ave de la Puncia right to the base of the mighty Grand-Hotel-du-Cap-Ferrat,and from the lighthouse ascend the steps to the residential streets. We are Somerset Maugham fans,so respect was paid at his villa, but it paled with respect to the plethora of houses that are on show. This is gawking territory.
Its not long before you see the pink pile of Villa Ephrussi de Rothchild gardens and villa. its a must visit, for it has Madam's garden creation ,overlooking my favourite look-out over the sparkling sea from a rock seat carved into the cliff face.
We caught the bus back to Nice. it was an exhilarating, magnificent, full day. Next visit i am going to visit by boat and do the full James Bond shtick. AHHH... dreams.

There are actually three walks to do in the area. I've attached a map so you can see them. I would highly recommend saving this map as it can be difficult to find the starting points of the two southern walks and they are not visible on Google Maps.
The views are simply stunning. It's a must do. The most northern walk is the easiest one to do as it's entirely flat and on a path designed for regular walkers/cyclists etc. Pretty much anyone could do it. The other two require good footwear and a decent level of fitness especially if it is hot.
The most southwestern walk was stunning. We went anti-clockwise and the first half was absolutely beautiful with shade and points of interest along the way. The path is broken by stones in places so good footwear is strongly advisable. The last half is slightly less interesting but the paths are easier to walk. This walk takes about 2 hours in total if you're doing it without stopping regularly. Taking a picnic is a good idea and a bottle of water a must as there aren't any places to stop on the way except for one water fountain half-way round!

We started in Villa France Sur Mer and took the walking tack & road around Cap Ferrat. 2 Adults and 4 kids aged 4, 7,8,9 years. The walk is about 9-10 ks long and is quite scenic as its either beautiful villages across the bay to VillFrance, and awesome coast line, or stunning French houses and landscape of the rich n famous. I'd suggest taking a few snacks as once you leave Villa France there are very few shops until about 8/9 ks round. The walk is fairly easy but there is a bunch of steps so you would battle with a small wheeled kids stroller unless it was a mountain buggy type. Also some bits of the path are not fenced so with kids under 4 you'd be watching them like a hawk.
It took us about 4 hours to walk it with a young kids and stop for snacks etc.
It's a must do but it can get very hot in the peak of summer there. So start early or late, hat, sacks n water and a map ( just so you find the start of the walk) Have fun!

I did the hike around the peninsula of Saint Jean-Cap-Ferrat because of the good reviews on Tripadvisor and I was not disappointed. It is a great hike, especially on the western side of the peninsula. This side has a wilder beauty with secluded bays and more trees. 80% of the path is paved, the rest has a bit rocky surface. There are a few steps up and down. But it is an easy walk, about 2 hours.
Practical info: You can get here easily from Nice center with bus 81. The journey from Nic takes about half an hour. The final stop is the harbour of Saint Jean-Cap-Ferrat. Alternatively you can park your car at Place du Centenaire at the harbour. There is a tourist office across the road where you can get a map of Saint Jean-cap-ferrat and the differerent trails. Saint-Jean is a lovely little town with plenty of opportunities for something to eat and drink after your hike..

The best things in life are free and this is one of them! This walk compares with the tracks around Sydney Harbour and as anyone who has done those knows, that's saying something. The changing terrain, and wild beauty along the route are a not to be missed experience as are the views of the villas, the sea and small beaches as well as the vegetation - and the lovely small village of St Jean itself. Don't miss going up to the Chapelle Hospice on the small headland and the Phare on Cap Jean. Other reviews advise to be prepared if you take the longer walk around Cap Jean. Take this advise. On the first day, I wore sandals to the Chapelle Hospice point and that was okay, but if you are continuing all the way around to the Phare and beyond to Plage de Passable, you need sunscreen, water and very good shoes. In the section below the Grand Hotel, the path has many steps and rises so it is something of a hike. Take care. In stormy weather the path can be dangerous. While storms are infrequent, even in sunny weather it can be very hot and open to the elements. None of this should detract from this not to be missed experience. Highly recommended.

One of the, if not the, best hikes we've ever been on. Incredible views, great trails, and worth every step.

See some of the most magnificent homes as you walk along the A lovely coastal path that winds all round the Cap - whole distance about 9km. Start on the path outside the Royal Riviera hotel at the edge of Beaulieu. It is located on a peninsula next to Beaulieu-sur-Mer and to Villefranche-sur-Mer and extends out to Cap Ferrat. Its tranquility and warm climate make it a favourite holiday destination among the European aristocracy and international millionaires.Walking towards St Jean Cap Ferrat you have wonderful views across to the Villa Krylios at the beginning pf the path. The private yachts moored out in the Med in front of you will blow you away nothing less than 80 - 100 meters all with their own tenders bigger than boats we normally see and their own helicopters .....this walk is really lifestyles of the rich and famous .

Any suggestions for distance running in this area? Is it safe to run / hike alone in the morning? Any insight would be tremendous. Thanks!

Hi there,
Saw your posting regarding hiking around Cap de Ferrat. Heading to Riviera next week and I have a question. Where did you start your hike and where did you end it? (ie.. staying in Nice and will want to bus it there/ back). I was told that I get off bus 81 at Villa Ephuessi and start hike there. Is that correct? So, the path is well marked and lots of stops to rest? Errrr.. what about restrooms? :-)
What if I want to end my hike early and take a bus the rest of the way (or back to Nice).. are the bus stops near the pathway? Traveling solo... so certain things I like to have more specific info... other things I can wing it and be more la-de-da.

No, villa Ephrussi is not the right stop. Stay on the bus until you reach the harbour and the sea. This is the final stop of the bus. get a map with the trail at the tourist office. Trail is signposted, you can't miss. The path just goes around the peninsula. No bathrooms or restaurants on the trail. But plenty of restaurants nearby the harbour
