Running in a strip right across central Nice, the Promenade du Paillon is a 12 hectare park (in effect) that has been described as the "green belt of Nice." It runs from the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art all the way, via Place Massena, to Promenade des Anglais, and it a terrific place to stroll, sit, people watch and breathe. Containing almost 1600 trees, perennial plants, shrubs and borders, it really is easy to see why some refer to Promenade du Paillon as the lungs of the city. One of the key features of the Promenade is the famous Miroir d'Eau - an enormous water mirror that you can run and splash about in. This is a key tourist spot and yet never feels crowded. In fact, it can be one of the most peaceful places in Nice. The Promenade gets its name (and largely, it's shape) from the River Paillon which now flows beneath the city, where once it flowed above. It was decided to send the river below ground through the city because it had a reputation for flooding. Following the Promenade du Paillon, you are effectively following the course of the river beneath your feet. I always come here when I visit Nice. It's the best place to disconnect and chill out.

Beautiful part of the city of Nice where there are also a large and beautiful playground and a great sort of water feature .. all really very nice. The part of the playground is closed so without danger and with lots of Things to do. Many in wood and for all ages. Too bad only a few benches compared to visitors and the light that illuminates little in the evening.

A very pretty spot in town with the big fountain that kids love to play in. Very busy area in between Vieux Nice and the more modern part of the city. We found some places to sit to enjoy all the activity.

This park runs through the centre of Nice but a section near the Promenade des Anglais was closed off when we were there recently. The part we could go into was just a long, wide open, flat area, ok for a walk away from the city traffic, but it has lots of paving and not much shade and is a bit boring. Kids will love splashing in the fountains though! Free water dispensers were useful.

Promenade du Paillon is a park that begins near the beach, stretches along Blvd. Jean Jaurès and leads to Old Nice if you’re heading east. It has a playground for kids (with a cool sea life theme) and benches for anyone who wants to relax. I wouldn’t say there’s a whole lot to see but it’s a pleasant walk as well as an enjoyable alternative to walking down the boulevard. The coastal area allows lush plants and flowers to flourish, the water from the fountains makes some striking reflections and the bronze replica of David is a nice touch.

As a strolling area this really is a top place to visit. There once was a river running through this area, but when the river dried up, the citizens covered the riverbed and made this whole area a lovely park. It has open areas for playing and lots of bushes and plants on either side. Families were picnicking in the green areas, just enjoying being outside. It is serene and a must-do if you like strolling.

This area was apparently only completed last October. The city of Nice have made a wonderful place for people of all ages to visit. The trees and plants are lovely, the children's play areas are great, there is lots of comfortable seating and the water features are just wonderful. We particularly liked the mist effects at night. Make sure to go here!

The stretch of land which covers Paillon river from place masena up to the musee d'art moderne was covered with concrete, bus terminals and similar utility buildings. What a great surprise to see it changed into a most enjoyable park/water fountain/playground.

When I ask my five year old, which city do he likes better Cannes or Nice? He will reply Nice BECAUSE of the Promenade du Paillon.
The playgrounds are unique and not the usual plastic slide etc. For every age there is a different level to play and exhaust the energy of your kids. Paillon was a fixed point in our schedule every single day of our visit. Paillon was more important to the little one than the pool or the sea.

Promenade du Paillon is a joyful park which connects Massena square with Old City Center. It is really relaxing to walk along Promenaade du Paillon, admire the flowers, sit on a bench and enjoy the french atmosphere.

On our previous visit to Nice in June 2013 the central area was under construction and now (July 2014) on our last visit the Promenade is open and what an asset to Nice it is.
Running from the Place Massena through to the Acropolis area of the city, this pleasant two km walk takes you away from the traffic and through a pleasing series of planted and children's play areas. Plants and grasses abound in the perimeter area, with bamboo featuring in the main. The children's play area is themed on the sea and the equipment ranges from a huge whale, dolphins and octopus swings. The real treasure is the paved fountain area where the jets of water dance and play and keep the atmosphere cool in the summer. Mist is also released to cool the air.
There are toilet facilities (50 c per use) and information booths along the promenade along with seats from which you can either people watch or just rest and enjoy this haven of green peace in Nice.

This is a new promenade in Nice and it is a lovely stretch of green to stroll along, play in and relax and watch the world go by in. There are 12 hectares of green space, linking the National Theatre with the Verdure Theatre on the seafront. The river Paillon used to flow underneath the new park as we were told by our lovely hotel receptionist.

The use of water to reflect the hills and colourful architecture is stunning. These wet tiles contain 128 jets which squirt water up to 5m into the air, playing tricks on the crowd. Just when you think it's safe to walk across the tiles or stand in the middle for a pic, the jets suddenly start up again! Another fantastic feature is the use of sprays gently mimicking early morning mist in the river valleys surrounding Nice. I'm sure this is going to be very popular on hot summer days when everyone wants to cool down.

There is a very popular childrens' play area which features giant wooden squid, dolphins, turtles and an enormous whale frame housing swings and climbing frames, all stunningly crafted. There is stunning foliage to be seen here, especially in the Spring when we were there. There is a distinctly Mediterranean feel to the plants and trees.

Don't go out of your way for a special visit to Promenade du Paillon but do stroll through it and take a break there on your way to other exciting destinations in Nice. Bear in mind though, there was not sitting on the grass at the waterfront end. This may be because it is still new and may change after the grass has taken solid root. Let's hope so, we were certainly disappointed!

I loved this water park and quietly watching their show! They start small and change height and pattern all the time!
Some people walked among them, risking getting wet if they misjudged the fountain !
Fun!
Refreshingly beautiful !
