Nothing 'prissy', half-hearted, or apologetic about this eye-catching, thought provoking masterpiece of creative contemporary sculpture.
We were weaned on a very restricted intake of 'masterpieces' some brilliant and highly talented but many, many frankly boring, drab, and stuck around a very limited theme range....and occupying endless miles of gallery walls. In the UK we are beginning to take to Street Art which brings colour and vibrancy to our everyday lives, but have been reluctant to absorb other styles and genres into the mainstream.
Viva the French, who throughout the country, boldly and proudly exhibit many styles of works of art relating to our times, many of which can be seen around Nice, and of which La Tete Carree is a contemplative and fine specimen.
Do not leave town without experiencing it!

We pass by in the sightseen tour of the hop on hop off turistic bus, is very interesting and worth the time to see it.

This is really strange looking with this multistory building being the face of a person, connected to the neck and shoulders being the base. Haven't been inside, but nice seeing it if on your way

This square head is horrendous, nowadays artists try so damn hard to be original and all they manage to do is to build garbage

Right next to museum of modern art. Cool sculptures. Access is a bit annoying as you can walk down a path to find no exit and have to walk all the way round again. Some signage might be useful

When driving down the busy road in Nice, you may slam on your brakes and ask "what is this?" The answer is La Tete Carree Library which is a large box shaped sculpture with a man's lower lip, chin and neck as the base and called "Thinking Inside The Box". It is an 85' tall cube shaped sculpture with 3 floors of the library inside. We did not go inside but think it would be fun to look out at the road while people drive by slowly. Best to drive by at night when it is lit up and you can see the floors of books.

La Tete Carree is a drive-by attraction, pure and simple. It’s interesting because of its sheer novelty and large size, but only a contemporary art fanatic would think this sculpture merits a lengthy, contemplative inspection at close range.I'm glad I've seen it, but once is enough.

Interesting piece of art. "Block Head" is huge! Next to the library & modern art gallery. Makes for interesting photos.

It's a cool thing to see if your in the area but not worth a big detour over. The day I went they had the gardens around it closed so that didn't help that I could only see it from a distance. It really is just a square on top of a mouth and neck. Good if your into modern art I guess.

This is one of the most unique buildings I've ever seen. Love it or hate it there is nothing else like it where I live.
