Great villa house
Jun 2019
Entrance fee to this museum was €$10 (it also included access to other museums like the Matisse one and the Photography one), valid for 24 hours as of the time of purchase; it did not include the Chagall museum. Ground floor level shows the main elegant rooms and furniture, second level was devoted to different articles like statuettes, old-fashioned clothing, pictures and others, and third level to French movies history. The first level was nice, the second one not so appealing to me, and the third one very interesting for the pictures, movie films posters, some videos, and camera equipment through the years of French movies. The construction of the Villa started late in the 19th century, and it was concluded in 1901 in a neoclassical style with Italian influence. I spent like an hour for this visit. There is a beautiful garden surrounding the house, and chairs are available for relaxing. Toilettes available at the entrance of the house, also a cloakroom for bags and stuff.

Magnificent museum not to be missed
Feb 2020 • Solo
E10 entrance or buy the worthwhile E20 museum ticket for several museums in Nice. I was lucky that Dr Alain Frere’s circus exhibition was prolonged to 1/3/20. See my photos on TripAdvisor and interview up on YouTube plus interview with Jean Pierre Barbero, the museum director.

Excellent Museum
Feb 2020
This was one of the highlights of our visit to Nice. The museum is in a belle epoque mansion which is very impressive in itself. We were fortunate to see two special exhibits on our visit. One was about French circuses and the other about Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. Both were fascinating. We highly recommend the Musee Massena.

Beautiful Mansion and Museum
Feb 2020 • Solo
How could I pass up a visit to such an impressive mansion? I was more than happy to pay the 10 euro cost of admission (which includes a 2-day pass to about a dozen other museums in Nice). The home itself is stunning with its lovely garden and open view to the Mediterranean. Several rooms feature period furnishings and the decor of the rooms themselves is completely over-the-top! There is a small collection of pieces relating to Napoleon including his death mask. There were also photos, posters and paintings related to the history of Nice. The temporary exhibit I saw was about the circus - lots of colorful costumes, a large and detailed diorama, props, videos and a history of the Grimaldi family’s involvement with the Monaco circus.

What a Grand Surprise!
Jan 2020
Have visited Nice several times, so we were looking for a new place to visit. We decided on Musee Massena because we wanted to see the memorial to those who were killed in the Nice terrorist attack on Bastille Day, 2016. You do not need a ticket to see this, but we stayed to see the museum. It was wonderful. There was a special exhibit on the circus collection of Doctor Alain Frere. It was amazing. The museum also has a permanent collection of artifacts from the Napoleonic Era. The building, itself, is just beautiful. We were so glad we had a chance to visit this lovely museum.

Lovely Building and interesting Circus Exhibit
Jan 2020
This is a beautiful building with several formal furnished rooms and a permanent exhibit with Napoleonic artifacts as well as artifacts from other important figures from the history of Nice. The current exhibit of circus memorabilia and history is extensive and impressive and extremely interesting. The memorial to the victims of the 2016 Bastille Day terrorist attacks is located in the gardens.

Excellent Garden Walk - Free of charge
Jan 2020
Highly recommended to make some time to walk leisurely through the Musee Massena garden. Also take time to pay hommage to the victimes of 14 July 2016.

Architectural Wonder with Friendly Staff
Nov 2019
My friend and I stopped here while waiting for our check in. The kind and polite women at the front desk directed us to a grocery where we could pay to have our luggage stored as the museum does not allow suitcases. Everything in this museum from the mosaic tile floor to the painted ceilings was so intricately designed. Mr. Barbero the museum director has done great work. The LEGO model of the promenade was neat too. A must see if you like architecture, art, and history

This is a lovely museum on the Promenade des Anglais (note that the ticket office is separate from the main building).
Lovely displays of furniture and other historical exhibits.
Currently, there's a circus exhibition which is excellent.
