My wife is Russian so I'm used to orthodox cathedrals, and this certainly matches those I've visited in Russia, clearly all the more impressive being set in Nice. On a practical level it's free to visit although I understand that guided tours available.
Beautiful Russian Orthodoc Cathedral. The building itself reminds you of Russia and St. Petersburg or Moscow. Inside the art work is stunning. Well worth visiting for something that looks out of place but is part of France ( the Russian emigre community).

What has eluded you is the fabulous Marc Chagall museum. Easy to get there by bus. In the old town, just wander the narrow lanes. If you go at night you can look up at the colored lights on the waterfall descending from Castle Rock. That's a must-visit as well, with panoramic views.
