This is a small but noteworthy museum if for nothing else, the display of La Piscine, a room recreating Matisse's last cutouts. He captured frolicking in a pool. He was determined to "feel"cooler and transformed a room into a pool scene. There are noteworthy early paintings, incredible self-portraits, sketches and space dedicated to presenting his work on the Chapel Du Rosaire.... More

you get the feeling you are being taken for a ride. At ticket office they charge you 10 euros. But when you say that web site says "free of charge" they are quick to reply not to trust "official web sites."...Besides, not much to see in there. Nice building though. On the positive side. Beautiful buiding and nice roman ruins... More

As a casual but hopeful visitor I was disappointed. There seemed to me to be relatively little of the work of the artist on show. One room was being painted but ... not really worth a visit.

If you are in the neighborhood definitely do go and visit this museum. There are a few other sights nearby, and the museum sits in a beautiful building in a nice park. As to Art - there are some paintings of Matisse, but you will see more and better in any respectable art museum in any big city in the... More

How this Museum justifies calling itself the Matisse museum is a wonder to me. The only good thing about it was that the €10 ticket also gives you entry to the Roman ruin museum next door, which is very interesting. To return to the Matisse museum anyone not knowing this artist previously would wonder what the fuss is about. The collection... More

Matisse is in the residential section of Nice away from Old City. Recommend u use hop on-hop off tour bus to get off Stop 8 if u one-time visitor. Three floors of early, mid-career and latter part of Hrenri Matisse works: erotic ink drawings, sculptures, paintings, paper cutouts, self-portraits, his sojourn to Tahiti, his scale model and preliminary works on... Enjoyed very much the surroundings of the museum as well as the exhibition as a big fan of Matisse. The logistics requires a bit of attention of not travelling to the hill by taxi, but we found the cote d'azur app useful for finding the correct buses.

If you are an expert in Matisse's works this is another gallery to tick off your list. For the casual onlooker or tourist however better value is gained when you take advantage of visiting other attractions as part of your €10 pp fee. The museum Massena is worth visiting as is the Roman archeological site etc. If you have the... More

Great variety of his work, from pencil drawings to sculpture to oil paintings. Set in a grand house on the hill. Take the number 15 or 17 bus from town centre, and good cafe in the park too.

A nice museum with a little bit from each of Matisses styles but really not that much to see. Took two people who like art only 40 mins to go round the whole thing.
