I’ve been to museums all my life all over the world and this was the worst experience of them all.

The staff were unwelcoming or unhelpful and that’s before setting foot in the museum.

Whilst queueing they told people in the queue they were not allowed backpacks inside. They said we were not allowed to use the lockers either. People with large hand bags or shopping back were allowed in. No explanation was given for this. I explained I needed my backpack because it contained things for my small child, but they didn’t care.

Nothing about this rule on the museum website. Someone next to us said they’d even went inside earlier in the day too ask if a back pack was allowed and they’d been told yes. Many people were were turned away. Many people were surprised. One of our party took out bags back to our hotel. Once inside the museum we saw lots of people with not only with large bags but also rucksacks. When we left they were admitting some people with backpacks.

The staff inside the museum were agressive when telling people to stand back from the art installations. To be fair it really wasn’t clear how far back to stand because the art was all over the floor, no lines were drawn on the floor to indicate the limit. No visitor was being disrespectful.

I saw one member of staff telling a small child off, and whilst doing so touching the art themselves.

There is only one set of toilets and these were dirty with no hand towels or other ways of drying your hands.

The café was disappointingly closed. I think that’s were maybe another set of toilets were, but since that whole floor was shut, they weren’t accessible.

There was an awful lot of unused space. It all seemed quite run down.

I do not recommend this museum

I gave it 2 out of 5 because I personally enjoyed some of the art, but that is subjective. If I knew how badly run this museum was I wouldn’t have gone despite some interesting art.

This is a great exhibition space with the added bonus of a rooftop view of Nice. The permanent collection is supplemented with temporary exhibits. The museum is spacious with plenty of seating provided to allow for a little respite between rooms.

Amazing building. Nice collection. Roof garden is really stunning with great views across Nice. Buy the 3 day museum pass which gets you into all the municipal museums in town for €15.

Overall, as an art historian I should admit that visiting is worth it. Each subject of exhibition speaks about major art historian points representing number of artworks selected rightly in order to convey an important content of the retrospectives. However, I was disappointed not having enough profound translation into English language. As English, German and Russian speaking person it was very useless to see a lot of french descriptions/ covers around. I think that Museum in its correct context should adjust and follow the general standards in terms of how to organise the visual display of the exhibition. I got it that France is famous for not being much into other languages, but it's a certain disrespect to all foreigners. Or maybe, on the other hand it's a good motivation to learn/ repeat French;). The location is also quite spectacular if one takes last floor to the roof.

This is a quite large museum located in a spacious ans comfortable building. There are many and varied exhibitions. Some of them, I found interesting, as I found they told something substantial about people as we have been over the course of the past 50 years. Others, I had no interest in whatsoever. To get the most out of the museum, I believe you have to have an above average fascination and knowledge of French modern art. I personally don't, but of course, I consider that to be my fault.

I felt quite overwhelmed when visiting this museum: it hovers around the edges of "art-not art" dilemma for those like me who do not have in depth knowledge of contemporary art. Some of the exhibits were truly beyond my understanding. Yet, I nevertheless liked the visit. I happened to learn about artists like Yves Klein and started ever since track his art works everywhere. The museum is pretty large, it takes almost half a day to visit it. It's not crowded at all so you can take your time. The roof garden is a must see to have a city view of Nice.

Visited on a whim and absolutely delighted. Impressively designed as a rotunda on 5 floors with spectacular views across Nice from the open viewing platform.
There was a brilliant Pop Art Exhibition on show when I visited with major emphasis on Yves Klein, Daniel Spoerri and Niki de Saint Phalle which gave a comprehensive overview of the French contribution to Pop Art. Clear descriptions in English and German as well as French for each work

Definitely the best museum in Nice. This is a good collection of art with an inevitable Frenchish taste preponderance. It's intriguing to note that the number of artists is relatively small, but that each is represented by several works. There is no bar or restaurant despite the size of the building.

A monumental building at the end of a park houses modern and contemporary art. The art is well displayed and well lit. The wall labels are helpful to varying degrees. There are places to sit and rest. The displays include sculpture as well as painting, and also three-dimensional installations. It is well worth a visit.

I went in to buy some gifts.

After spending almost 100e in the gift shop I was refused entry to the toilet by a rather stern and abrupt security lady dressed in a shirt and tie. She was joined by another female from the information/ticket desk who was snappy and even ruder than the other. Both were dismissive and arrogant, they should be ashamed of the way they speak to and treat visitors!

As i paid to get in to use the loo I had a look round the gallery.

Uninspiring and grubby!

It’s a shame as I really like the design of the place and the roof terrace/walkway could be lovely.

Don’t bother!
