It sounds like this was unusual :-D We took the lift up to '2' and saw the view from top and the waterfall. We realized though we couldn't take it down to '1' so ended up then taking it all the way back down then walked up to the other viewpoint. Anyway, inefficient I'm sure, but we were jet lagged. Either way, great views and I'm sure even better on the sunny days.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 5, 2024
- The Codnor TravellerCodnor, United Kingdom213 contributionsA must seeAs I said in my previous review about the Colline du Château, there isn't much left of the old Citadel, save for a few ruins. Instead, the top of Castle Hill is predominantly a park. No ordinary park though - this one, set high up over the city of Nice, offers absolutely stunning views across the city and the Mediterranean, along with plenty of places from which to view/photograph them. You can go up in the lift/elevator, or you could climb the crazy amount of steps up to the top, and admire the views along the way. Once at a certain point there are a series of weaving tracks which to be honest, can easily get you lost, but ultimately you will always end up at the top, where there are, amongst other things, a childrens play area, two very pleasant cafes and picnic spots. One of these cafes is a must visit for my wife and I when we visit. A cup of tea and an ice cream are just the ticket when you're sat up there, in the sweltering heat. Arguably the best part of this park is the wonderful man-made waterfall, which comes cascading down over a small cliff. You can get up close and personal with this waterfall, which makes for absolutely brilliant photo opportunities, or you can climb up above it to a viewing balcony. On a personal level, this waterfall is synonymous with Nice. If someone mentions 'Nice' to me, the first thing that springs to my mind is this waterfall. Whether you climb the 93 meters to the top, or travel up in the lift, you will be glad that you visited Parc de la Colline du Château.Visited September 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten October 8, 2024
- David HBury, United Kingdom1,661 contributionsLovely viewsThe first day we tried to visit there were storm warnings and it was closed. Secondly we took "le petit train" but for some reason that day it also did not go up! Finally we found the lift open one morning and without a queue. The lift takes you up to the first level, avoiding a lot of climbing, and is free. The view from the first level is good, but keep walking up to the top and behind the cafe is a huge terrace with stunning views across towards the airport and ANtibes. Basically this is just a park but well worth the effort. On our descent we walked down the steep paths to the Port, which was tough but okay.Visited October 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten November 9, 2024

We fell in love with Parc Chateau. We found the climb actually easier than anticipated, but there is an elevator too. You can walk up via two different locations on opposite sides. We entered opposite of the port, by Hotel Suisse. We viewed the waterfall, the ruins, and the park, which was adorable. People with kiddos, bikes, lots of well behaved dogs, great playgrounds. There is also a take-away cafe with excellent coffee and croissants, and they also served sandwiches. There is a smaller snack shop on the other side, but this one was delightful, we could have stayed all day. Small tables with umbrellas and chairs were available, and we really enjoyed this little area. We also got to watch a workout group, who were very energetic dancing to some great workout music high atop Nice. We also walked down to the cemetery next door. Also, the small "kiddie style" train also goes up to the top and does a small ride around the general area if you don't want to walk. The views were amazing, and other than our coffee and croissant, completely free. Very worth it.

Great view over the sea, the beach, the city. Nice parc to walk in with a bit of everyting, art, history, nature, waterfall... You will spend more time than you might think. We visited herin the summer when it was really hot weather. We enjoyed the pleasure of the elevator - free - to go to the top directly. A cool intermezzo to enjoy the beauty afterwards.

Worth the little climb to see the views from both sides. Pleasant park area and huge waterfall too. Great park for kids and a cafe. Nice place to spend a couple of hours.

You have definitely seen the images of the Promenade de Anglais or the Old Port from here. Fora better experience take the elevator - free - through the roca to the terrace up. Then walk around and do not miss the cascade and the other side of the park - the one to the Vieux Port. You can walk back or take the elevator again. And stroll by the sea…

Costs nothing but your energy and time but my word, what a worthwhile venture.

A good way to spend a warm afternoon. We wished to avoid the climb, so found the elevator near the end of the Quai des Etats Unis. Nice to wander in the shad through this park, enjoying views of the Cote d'Azur and Port. We walked back down into the old town.

Once you tough through walking uphill (which is not that bad at all compared to hiking), you’ll be rewarded with a beautiful panoramic view of Nice and Côte d'Azur. This is a must do when you visit Nice.

It was quite a wait to get the elevator up from the old town, but certainly worth it. The park at the top has great views up and down the coast, you can look down into the old port and see the boats come and go, you can look down into the old town of Nice. It's also very nice to just stroll around the park itself, which was full of local families just relaxing and enjoying themselves. Highly recommended.
