Lovely gardens
Aug 2020 • Family
My 11 year old son and I took a break from the pool to visit the gorgeous gardens. They have a scavenger hunt with a sweetie as a treat for completing it. He very much enjoyed exploring the grounds as did I. Since we don’t speak French we decided not to go inside for the tour. There is a short film to watch with English subs which explain the story of the castle and Henry and Mary’s love story. There are many information boards around to explain the history.

It’s on the beach if you fancied combining the two activities. Wonderful rock pools too.

A little gift shop by the entrance with lovely things for kids.

The views are phenomenal and the gardens are just delightful. I thoroughly recommend a visit.

Chateau de la Napoule

Nice little walk around the garden for which you can do for 4 euros each but we chose the tour of the Chateau at 6 Euros each which included the gardens. Be warned the tour is conducted in French, however, you are given an English information sheet which you can follow as you go through. We were lucky that the friendly lady conducting the tour gave us a brief overview in English as we went around. Interesting little tour, a very enjoyable couple of hours.

Very interesting tour

Very interesting tour of castle with plenty of unusual architecture and items. Sent in December but expect gardens would be lovely in spring and summer.

Great museum to a very interesting artist
Aug 2019
A ruined medieval castle (originally built in the late 14th century) bought and beautifully restored by American millionaire and amateur sculptor Henry Clews in 1918, who lived there between 1919 and his death at the age of 61 in 1937. It is a very original art museum of Clews' work and has a delightful garden, as well as a terrace looking towards the sea.
The gardens are open to the public, but the castle itself can only be visited on a guided tour in French and English (available a few times a day with the entry ticket).

Interesting place
Jul 2019 • Couples
Have seen the castle when passing by between Cote de l’Esterel & Cannes many times but never stopped before. Checked the net for some info about the Clews before but there was also an informative film clip of around ten minutes showing their life. Beautiful garden with a tea salon/restaurant facing the sea front. Unfortunately there were going to be a wedding there in the evening so there was no solitude but a very apologetic man gave as un open ticket to return later. Very nice place to spend a spare hour although not a destination of it’s own.
Ps. Don’t forget to take s drink or a snack at some of the dmall bars & bistrots across the street. Ds

Fascinating and freaky

To see inside, you need to pay 6 euro per person for a guided tour which is in French. The tour is a little laboured but you won’t see the weirdness of the interior without it. It’s basically a love letter from the owners to each other expressed in some artistically questionable ways. But you can’t fault their commitment to their vision. Bonkers.

Fascinating and unusual

Take a guided tour around the gardens and castle for 6 euro. Absolutely fascinating history and a rare chance to see some of Henry Clews work as there's a private collection there as well as paintings and other works of art in the house.

2000 years old Chateau on beach
Dec 2018 • Friends
I visited the Château de la Napoule , a restored French castle on the Mediterranean Sea. It has been classified as an historical landmark since 1993, and the gardens are listed by the French Ministry of Culture as among the Notable gardens of France. Very pretty garden with lemon tree. I heard that It was featured as one of the main locations in the 1999 movie Simon Sez. Very sophisticated Chateau and guided by the friendly staff.
