We traveled from Cannes on the 20a bus beside Hotel de Ville at the cost of €1.50. You depart the bus almost across the road from the Chateau. It was restored in 1918 by American couple Henry & Marie Clews, it dates back to the 18th century. During WW2 the castle was captured by German soldiers, with the help of... More

There are four tours each day (11.30, 2.30, 3.30, 4.30) all in French. The committee that runs the Chateau has quite recently closed the room with most paintings because we are told "too many people who went into the room were only interested in the view from the windows". On that reasoning it is surprising that three further rooms have... More

This chateau is unusual in being built right beside the sea. You can walk around the lower walls by the beach/sea. To go inside is not expensive and is well worth the visit. The gardens are lovely and have unusual art works, nooks and crannies to enjoy. We took the guided tour. Although it was in French the guide spoke... More

Hidden in plain sight, just a straight 10k run from Cannes along the Riviera coastline, is the little beachside town of Mandelieu La Nepoule. First and foremost, there is a fantastic beach, clean and shallow, well-served by shower, toilet and snack bars. But there's so much more, too - a lovely little village to explore, a very decent local market,... More

Stumbled on this and went in. So glad we did. The film is well worth watching. It's a timeless love story and the castle stands as a monument to that love and to the prodigious talent of them both. This would have been enough to make it worth a visit but we stopped for a drink on the terrace and,... More

I was there for a week with a group from the Maine College of Art. It was a painting holiday. It isn't a hotel where you can just rent a room. I had a fantastic little room with a view and sound of the ocean. My bed was an old wooden one that was probably used by one of the... More

This beautiful Chateau and gardens are absolutely stunning and are brimming with history. Take a leisurely stroll around the gardens.. lose yourself in your surroundings and soak up the ambience and "romance" of this wonderful place. The entrance fee is very reasonable. There's also a cafe on site. This was one of the highlights of my recent holiday on the... More

The gardens are beautiful and not too expensive (6 euros for adults, under 16 free). Make sure you book for the tea shop however as they are a bit snooty and not particularly friendly if you haven't pre booked.
