This is the site of a dam that burst in 1959 and the resulting flood killed hundreds of people and did a huge amount of damage to Frejus. It is amazing to see the size of the concrete dam sections that were rolled at least...More

Welk upwards to the dam of Malpasset, althoug the pieces that are left of it. Build between 1952 and 1954 and collapsed in 1959. Imagine that 48.000 million liters of water came down, in a wave of 40 meters high at a speed of 70km/h....More

Definitely worth the effort to find and walk up to. It was extremely usual to be walking past, over and around bits of an old dam. I would definitely recommend trying to park in the shade if possible.

Site de Malpasset is named Malpasset Dam is a historic site in Frejus France, it is the arch dam on the Reyran river. 7km north of Frejus on the French Riviera this is a wonderful place to be on vacation. We enjoyed.

Good walk/carry with a 3 and 5 year old. Took about 20-30 mins each way quite easy walking. Good experience and interesting feel to the place, obvious tragedy but quite grand surroundings. Good way to spend a couple of hours

We visited the site of the Dam, the Barrage Malpasset, which collapsed in 1959, killing over 400 people, and destroying the villages of Malpasset and Bozon which were below it in its path. Although strangely eerie, with large concrete parts of the dam scattered along...More

After the usual groans from teenage daughters, we set off... Make sure you drive up to e motorway bridge and park - the previous bit is unspectacular. The walk isn't that long and, after about ten minutes, you'll get the first glimpse of the dam....More

It's a nice walk to the dam and the boulders have been there that long that at first you don't realise that most of them are part of the dam, it is quite haunting but also amazing to stand by these "pieces" to get the...More
