A peaceful island owned by Cistercian Monks. There are very clear paths to walk along which take you around and through the vineyards grown by the monks for olive oil and wine. The Monastery was undergoing refurbishment when we visited and you can't go in the Abbey until after 3.30pm. There is a good-sized restaurant and a place to buy snacks and soft drinks but the toilets are very French (primitive - hole in the ground!) The boat journey was smooth and takes 30 minutes each way.

The Monastery is located on Ile Sainte Honorat, which is a 20-25 min. scenic ferry ride from Cannes. You can find the ferry terminals by searching "Port de Cannes- Service Commerce" in Google Maps. You'll pay for your ticket there to access all of the island. Once you arrive, the Monastery is actually on the opposite side of the island, and there is a nice even, wide, and unpaved trail all the way around. It's a beautiful walk, with several historic buildings along the way. These buildings, including the monastery, are freely accessible-- no lines to wait in, and no one overseeing activity. There is not much in the way of interpretive signage either, so if you want to know more of the history, I suggest reading up before you arrive. Going up into each level, the ground may be uneven, so watch your step. Getting to the top is worth it!

Also on the island, you can visit the gift shop (soaps, wine, toys, postcards, etc.), a snack bar and restaurant (closed late afternoon), and the church. Expect to spend a couple of hours on the island if you want to see it all!

If you can, try to climb the stairs to the top of this fortified monastery it's well worth it. Lovely views, but not for the less mobile, it's winding steps around the tower to the top.

To be honest I would not recommend a visit to this island unless you want to pay 17 euros per head for the boat trip and be prepared to pay exhortionate prices for the wine that has been produced on the island.
Cheapest bottle starts from 45 euros and goes up to 200 euros for a bottle of champagne. Snack bar sells coke for 6.50 euros and coffee is the same price. Plat de jour food prices start from 34 euros.
I understand that the monks need to realise a gain from the business of wine production, but to charge 3 times the price of what you pay in the main town of Cannes is simply beyond expectations.
Apart from that, the Island is fine, the monastery is closed for renovations and there is nothing to see apart from a couple of ruins and the vineyard planting, I feel it would have been nice to be able to book some kind of tour regarding the vineyard and history, but no such luck.
Therefore I cannot recommend.

Visiting this island and forte was a fun afternoon family trip. Such a nice break from the loads of tourists and the busy bustle of the mainland. Our teenage daughters were skeptical at first, however, we all enjoyed exploring the island by foot. We had a glass of Rose at the restaurant after our walk. The restaurant menu looked appetizing and seemed to be reasonably priced. We would have chosen to have lunch here instead of the crazy tourist area of Cannes if we had known better. Worth the trip!

We had one day for Cannes and decided to tour the city then take the water taxi to this island off the coast. From the ancient fortress to the monastery and chapel to a wine tasting in the grapes orchard to the rustic restaurant this a great experience. Of course it was humbling to see all the beautiful yachts anchoring off the islands coast. Be prepared to walk in the elements.

It must have been a wonder to see when people lived in it. If you’re not into castles and forts you might be bored, but I thoroughly enjoyed climbing to the top. I couldn’t help but think of Monty python and the holy grail. But maybe that’s just me.

You can stay the night at the monastery, it is an opportunity to chill out where no phones ring, in a silent order where meals are eaten to reading or music. The visitors may join the monks for the service at 4:30 am for the beginning of the light. It was delightful. The monks are young and happy to explain their life and the meaning of the service to you. Otherwise, walk sketch, swim away from the madening crowd.

When in Cannes and you have done the beaches, the shops and walked the Croisette, visited the market and Le Suquet, been on the mini train and had your photo taken on the famous red carpet - sometimes you just want to relax for a day. We found the wonderful Island of Saint Honore was just the ticket..and provided an ideal escape with some excitement.

Saint Honore is the smaller of the two islands and you can easily walk all around it in one afternoon...so do make sure to wear flat shoes and pack a swimsuit and towel.! - There are some picnic tables and little spaces to sit by the water so if you don't want to use the restaurant - which was quite nice - you can take a picnic with you.

The boat ride over is lovely and gives lots of opportunities for photographs, there is some signage you can follow but as mentioned, the island is quite small so you won't get lost.

There is a monastery, little chapel, shop etc..all in a nice area that can be visited and sells local product...wines etc.that the monks make.

On the opposite side of the island from the where the ferry arrives/departs there is the fortification. This was a highlight as you can go in and around the building and climb the steps up to the top where there are fabulous views.

Just walking around the path is easy and when you turn a corner and see the fortifications in the distance it is lovely...and then once finished you just continue on the path which will eventually take you back to catch the ferry.

It may not be for everyone, it is basic and back to nature to a degree but we had a wonderful family day out and would quite happily go back again the next time we are in Cannes.
