touch history by visiting the cell of the Iron Mask and other infamous royal prisoners, marvel on the archaeological artifacts plucked from nearby shipwrecks, it's worth the small entrance fee!

Lots to do

Really interesting, and reasonable price of 6 euro per adult and free for kids. Man in the iron mask is the main attraction but nothing much provided by way of information. Excellent exhibition of underwater art when we visited although this is temporary. The general vibe of the place is spooky - it was built to keep people in and not out, so feels very prison-like rather than fort-like. And quite like a deserted film set. Some great views across to Canne and the Gulf of Juan.

We really enjoyed it!

My husband, son, daughter and I trekked up to the old prison thinking we'd wander the site and check out "The Man in the Iron Mask's" cell and then head to the beach. We were all pretty surprised to wander out of the site close to two hours later, most of that spend in the museum. My 5 year old daughter became bored when looking at the UNESCO World Heritage photos on the top floor but otherwise everyone enjoyed it all.

Staff were friendly and helpful in the little shop. Small backpacks must be worn on your front, while larger ones must be left outside.

Nice selection of artefacts ranging from across the world and also the ticket includes being able to go up the tower and the view over Cannes is to die for.

The Island itself is beautiful. The museum is quite interesting .Worth visiting. The murals on the walls are stunning. Enjoyed the trip. Would recommend this.

From the bottom of the Med

A very small collection of artifacts, largely from the sea bottom, reminders of the ancient world of sea trade. The collection is not outstanding but shouldn't be missed if you have made your visit to the cell of the Man in the Iron Mask.

Nothing you haven't already seen before

Another museum not worthy it's name... Their permanent collection is a waste of time, but they sometimes hold modern art exhibitions that may be interesting.

Disappointing

This is not what you can expect from an attraction in Monaco. The overall presentation and experience is outdated and not exciting at all. Just lucky we were 2 adults because children and teenagers must be bored with such an experience. To illustrate my point, it is like attending a boring over-head projector presentation when you have access to all the new medias. Disappointing.

Okay but not a lot to see

We visited here on our trip to the island for the day. I am sad to say that for us it wasn't that good. There was little to visit in the prison and few facts or anything interactive about the Man in the Iron Mask. If it wasn't so expensive (€6.50 for an adult - teenagers are free!) then it might have been of more appeal.
