A large and obvious monument in an easily-accessible place. You will pass it when you walk from La Croisette to the old town of Cannes (Le Suquet). Spend a few moments to look at the dedications and names, so they won't be forgotten. You might be lucky like me and visit just after a wreath-laying ceremony. The wreaths are often magnificent.

It's quite a moving monument, smack in front of the town hall, in full daylight, sorrounded by peacefull and shady alleys. The names of the fallen show that Cannes lost many of its sons betwenn 1914 and 1918, whereas in 1940 the war was over and lost before almost anybody got killed at all.

The Monuments aux Morts is not to die for, but worth a visit to pay respect to those who lost their lives in the tragic war. It's also on the way to old city.

The memorial is situated directly in front of the Town Hall.
It's worth taking the time to read the names of the Cannes citizens who lost their lives defending their country in both wars. In some ways WW1 is more shocking as several families lost more than one person...
There are official ceremonies of remembrance on the 11th of November and the 8th of May.

Monuments aux Morts are French war memorials established to commemorate the losses of World War I and to commemorate those who had been killed. The statue is beatiful and stands directly across from the Mairie of Cannes. It is a honor to people who lost their lifes in that terrible war.

Imposing and impressive statue in small shaded area and opposite the Mairie de Cannes. There are also other exhibits around, eg the French flag bonbon and the EU one. Seating available.

What a superb monument. Well worth a look, a read of and a walk round for ten minutes. We sat on a bench for a while both to admire it and to enjoy the cool shade provided by trees around it in the gardens.

We were very intrigue by this unique statue standing tall directly across from the Mairie of Cannes (City hall), that we had to go check it out. The statue is absolutely beautiful and commemorates the war of 1914-1918. There are always lays of flowers at its footsteps from 5 different countries; Canada, USA, Russia, England and France. This is a beautiful monument that deserves more attention then some of the other attractions on here. Well worth stopping by and pay respect to the ones who lost their lives in that tragic war.
