    Revisiting and adored
This place does not cease to amaze me each time I visit. The location, the architecture and the fascination for the Greek culture is fabulous. The design and the architecture are special and is one of the treats to imagine how life would have been there and then. Park your car next to the Beaulieu Casino as the entrance of the villa is on a dead end. Take your time to admire the terrace and garden. Watch the translation of the dog sign at the entrance though.

    How the other half lived...
There is no doubt that the Villa Kerylos is an amazing building in a stunning location. The former summer home of a rich Parisian built in the style of a Greek villa is beautiful but it must have been a bit like staying in a theme park (albeit a very grand and beautiful one) . Definitely worth a visit even if you just see the bathrooms upstairs . In the basement, there is currently a small and interesting exhibition on the excavations on Delos.

A Dream of Greece on the Côte d'Azur
On the face of it “a dream of Greece” in the south of France sounds strange but this lovely Greek Villa was a brilliant surprise. Not sure where visitors would park in the summer as there were just 7 spaces in the road outside. On two floors, the building was a homage to the guy who built it rather than a museum. Seems he collected everything Greek. The roof area was out of bounds, which was a shame. In the basement was an Antiques Gallery with casts of many well-known Greek (and Roman?) statues. Here there were also a few old black & white photos of the family that lived there. The leaflet we were given explained the family history but a few more photos would have been interesting – we didn’t notice one of Herr Reinach at all. The Villa is on a peninsular, with great views in all directions.

This monument is a treasure. The former owner was a great admirer of antiquity, but he and his family also accepted the modernity of their time (beginning of the 20th century). The garden, the building, the furniture, the decoration is extremely rich and beautiful. I have never been in such a nice place before.

A number 81 bus from Nice, at a cost of 1 Euro each way, will take you to either the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild or the Villa Kerylos. It is possible to combine visiting both villas in one trip. The Villa Kerylos is the nearer of the two villas to Nice. You can look across the bay up to the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild from the Villa Kerylos or down to the Villa Kerylos from the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild. It is understood that the owners of each villa, built within a few years of each other - about a hundred years ago - knew and visited each other. Like the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, the visitor is provided with a clear and informative multi lingual audio guide on arrival but that is where the similarities end.

The Villa Kerylos is an incredible place to visit - if you are interested in ancient Greece - as it was built to replicate an ancient Greek villa.

However, for me - the Villa Kerylos does not compare with the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild and if you only have time to go to one or the other - then I would highly recommend a visit to the latter with its fascinating story, beautiful house and contents, wonderful gardens and spectacular views. The Villa Kerylos is darker, smaller and does not have extensive gardens and although the views are lovely, they are not a patch on those of the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild.

Of course - the ideal solution is to make sure that you have time to visit both villas and experience the wonders of each!

On January 1st I tried to visit Villa Kerylos. I checked on the website, which is down, but I managed to find out opening times on the internet: open "365 jours par an". I made a phone call, and the recorded message confirmed the villa is open EVERY DAY. When I came to the villa, a sign hanged out the door told the villa was exceptionally closed on January 1st. I came especially to visit it, double checking opening times before arrival. Are you kidding with tourists? Do you think they are at your own disposal? The recorded message could have been modified for the occasion.

The Greek style interior decorations are relatively rare to find in museum houses so it's definitely worth a visit. The whole house was very elegantly constructed and has a lot of Greek mythology stories embedded into the mosaic floors.

Suitable for leisure visits. If you don't like crowds, this is definitely a good place to go. It's situated at Beaulieu-sur-Mer near Nice and it can be reached by bus No. 81 from Nice.

Villa Kerylos is an amazing place on the Cote D'Azur, situated on Beaulieu sur Mer , that is worth it to pay a visit. Built in 1900 by french archaeologist Theodore Reinach and his wife Fanny Kann , of the Ephrussi family. They wanted to recreate the atmosphere of a luxurios greek villa in a new building and they succeeded ! This beautiful villa inspired Baroness Beatrice de Rothschild to built Villa Ephrussi de Rotschild at nearby Cap Ferrat vhich i visited an year ago (see my review about it) .

Went with my family to see the villa. Have been to the larger Rotschild villa some years ago. While the site is interesting it would not seem worth 11euro on its own.

I would say it is something to see, but do not expect gardens like the ones at Villa Éphrussi. The inside of the house is all decorated with artifacts. It is not as joyful as Villa Éphrussi. So, for my taste, if you have to choose between the two, go see Villa Éphrussi first because it is up the hill, then walk (30min) downhill to the other one following the ocean walk (I used Rick Steves travel book for this to get there).

This Culturespace-run Villa has lovely room decor to look at, well-narrated audio guides, plus fascinating information about the owner, Theodore Reinach. I found learning about him and his era equally as interesting as the house.

It would actually make sense to buy a ticket for visiting this outlandish villa, if only the price weren't so high. Imho 11,50€, for each visitor, is truly excessive (rate Jan 2015) !!!

Villa Kerylos is a good option if anything better doesn't come up during your stay in Beaulieu.

Combined with VK there is also Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, which costs 13€ for a single entrance, but you can have a unique ticket for 20€, that allow to visit both villas.
Does this combo sounds better...?

Thanks anyway
