During our trip to Avignon on December 13, we saw this beautiful building in the city square. It is a historical building and is also used as a theater. The walking path is closed to traffic and both sides are full of cafes, restaurants and historical artifacts. It is a very beautiful city. It is also a papal city. The papacy was here for the century.

This is where all the tourists hang to eat. The square is packed with more restaurants than you have the desire to count. And there's also the City Hall, Opera House, and a movie venue on the other side. Just a bit up from this plaza, you'll find the Popes Palace. So very convenient to eat here and visit the Palace. Otherwise nothing else really special about it.

We were in Avignon, staying just of Place L'Horloge, in early September. So many outdoor dining options on this square, along with a lovely carousel, the chiming of the bell tower, and sometimes even live music. It's lovely place to sit with a drink and relax. In 3 days we ate here 4 times!

Place de la Clock is the main square in Avignon. Even under the Romans, there was a Roman forum on it, and now there are many restaurants, as well as a theater and town hall. The square acquired its modern appearance in the 19th century.

This is the centre of the city, housing the magnificent Hotel de Ville with its grand animated striking clock, hence the name. Most routes lead off of here - to the Palais des Papes and beyond for the Pont d'Avignon etc. The Rue de La Republique leads into the Place de L'Horloge and is the usual way that visitors enter Avignon from the stations. It is lined with cafes and restaurants, mainly catering for tourists. The other fine building in the Place is the Opera. There is also a fine Carousel at one end.
It is nearly always busy, most days there is some street entertainment and the usual sellers of jewellery, leather goods plus portrait artists and cartoonists. The downside, like in so many famous cities, is the beggars.
You can pick up the electric car here called La Baleine (green and white vehicle) which costs 50 cents to go all round the town. You can stop and get on anywhere you see it. It seems to start from Rue de La Republique and does a circular route. it is a great service, environmentally friendly and fun too.

Very nice place, lovely buildings - and the Helios show was amazing, one of the best light and sound shows I have seen. Close to most touristic attractions. Plenty of terraces to eat, and a very nice carusel (with very nice and polite staff...a real thrill for my daughter).
I couldn't have chosen a better location for our hotel.

It is the most beautiful square in Avignon. It is next to the palace of Papes. My hotel "Kyriad" was right on this square. Hotel de Ville is also in this square. During Christmas it is decorated very nicely.

This City is walkable. It isn't far to walk between all the interesting places. This is in a great Square, restaurants, bars etc. Near the Opera House which is being renovated. (Nearly finished I think) Well worth a visit.

Staying in Avignon was like being in my own fairytale. Our hotel was right on Place de l'Horloge just a few metres from the Papal Palace. Place de l'Horloge was vibrant with cafes overflowing with patrons and waiters that served with wonderful meals with a flourish. Street artists with pop up easles flanked the beautiful buildings of a past era. The ground floor porticos housed patisseries and boulangeries stacked with baked temptations. More restaurants, designer clothing and shoe stores, optic wear and the wonderful Tourismo Office nestled against each other under the grand arches of many of the gorgeous buildings. The Carre Four tastefully headed down the stairs off Place de l'Horloge, opening out into a huge basement packed with all your supermarket needs. Tiny streets and cobbled lanes spun away from l'Horloge taking you to wonderful churches, Les Halles, Synagogues, Jewish Quarter, bistros and boite de nuit, Viktor Hugo's very own street and house of interest, lovely galleries and beautiful restaurants preferred by the locals. I loved, loved loved Avignon.
