Sur le pont d'Avignon...

It would be a shame to come to Avignon and not dance on the bridge. There is a good audio guide that explains some of the myths and history - and the song as well.

It just stops! There is no more and still a lot of river to cross to get to the other side. Makes it very unique, and generates lots of questions about what happened. Gotta see it. You can buy a ticket at the Palais for both the Palais and the bridge, keep your tickets, and once you buy the listening... More

Long lines to walk on the bridge that was destroyed, rebuilt, destroyed, ... you get the idea. Finally the rebuilding stopped and the bridge remains a tourist attraction. You can see the bridge from the road for free! Glad I saw it... From the road!

I remembering singing the French children's song: "Sur le Pont d'Avignon" in grade school. Many years ago, when I visited France, folks were not allowed to walking on the bridge. The story behind the bridge is fascinating.... A sheephearder had a vision from God to build the bridge across the Rhone. Amazing that in the 11th century he could accopmplish... More

We booked it to see if there was more to learn that what we already know, and because of the song mainly. But the view is much better from under.

10 E to cross the Pont? Sorry, the four of us were not willing to fork over 40E to cross. We'll just look from below. It's nice looking from the street.

This historical bridge is definitely worth visiting in Avignon. It is easily accessible by foot, and you can photograph from either side of the bridge

Some good audiovisual presentations bring the history to life. Wheelchair users will be glad of the lift, if it's working.

After learning the Avignon Pont song many years ago in French class I had to go. The museum was not overly informative so I was a bit disappointed. It was, however, an enjoyable walk on the bridge. Be very careful if you have young kids. The railings would not stop them from falling into the river.
