It's a chronicle of the time the Popes were stationed in Avignon rather than Rome. Then thanks to further political intrigue they had one in each city. If you read between the lines this is all about the politics that underpin the catholic church.

Interesting place to visit if you like these types of tours. It was a bit boring for my taste, but still very interesting for the history aspect.

Plenty of history dating from 14th century. This building has been well maintained and well worth a visit. Some stairs but not too difficult to get round.

For the history buff this is a great place to visit. However I found the tour a bit on the boring side. I would skip the tour.

The fact that the popes once decided to leave Rome and move to Avignon for almost a century might be per de surprising - but visiting the impressive palace they built themselves is even more interesting. A couple of hours well spent.

A special night out on our Scenic Tours River Cruise we dined out in the Palace to superb food and beautiful music. One of the best meals and nights out that we have ever had.

Allow 3 hours to do justice to the extensive collections throughout the two adjacent palaces. I avoid gift shops but in this one I bought two "treasures". Visit during les Luminessences and see the spectacle at night! The entire Dom area is a visual treat.

Easy. You would get near the Pont d Avignon and if you go to the bridge information shop you can buy a ticket to go on the bridge and straight into the Palais. Enjoy.
