This is an amazing attraction and provides a great insight into the power and might of the catholic church... and how you can spend huge amounts of money on proving a point back in the 14 and 15 centuries. Do yourself a favour and book your tickets in advance and be prepared to go through security. There is no short... More

Well worth the 2-3 hours it takes to go round. You learn about 14th & 15th century political history, and see some of the rooms occupied by Popes 600 years ago, with some of the decoration intact. Be warned, there are a lot of steps.

If you include an Audio guide in your visit is the best way to better understand & see details of the Palace which without the guide you would not see. Very well invested 1.5hours.

Well worth the effort. Takes a few hours but it's very interesting. I was most suprised by all the displays and it held my attention all the way round. Gift shop is tacky!

Huge expensive palace built for the French pope at a time when there were three pope's claiming to be the spiritual head of the Catholic church. Ridiculous but true. Lovelt building and garden.

Very much worth visiting if you like medieval buildings. It's not maintained as a palace so don't expect lots rooms full of sumptuous furniture, tapestries & paintings. There are a few chapels around but it's not a religious visit. There are lots of information boards & you can have an audio guide to help you. One thing though, it's not... More

I have visited many historic sites in Europe and this is the first that was so well organized that you could do the tour on your own with both different translations on cards and audio guide that as easy to use. But point all around. And after you leave walk outside the old, city wall to see the famous pont d'Avignon.

We spent a long time going round this palace and the size of it is awe inspiring. There are several halls the size of a cathedral. There is lots of history to soak up and interesting photographs to capture. It would be an advantage if there was a tea room half way round!
