    Beautiful space
The visit was part of a walking tour of Arles with a focus on Van Goth. We entered the space from a bustling street, which served to emphasis just how quiet it was. There are the ubiquitous gift shops in the garden though as they were not too crowded. Our guide pointed out the similarity of plants growing in the garden to the plants on the original painting.

    Great Van Gogh experience
Peaceful and nostalgic ambience, lovely to just sit, or walk around the courtyard soaking up the Van Gogh heritage. Loved the little cafe who sold us freshly squeezed orange & lemon juice 'citron presse'? Souvenirs available on site of course, and a great facsimile of van Gogh's famous painting of the courtyard. A highly enjoyable tourist experience.

    Uninspiring Van Gough attraction
Having looked forward to visiting this place for many years, all I can say is:" underwhelming". Apart from a bronze of the Great Master himself, the only clues as to this was where Van Gough stayed and painted some 300 works was the gift shop. Even the garden was looking a bit shabby.

Silly exposition of 19th C photos of the new machine age... But in Russia! One VG of a bird. Alas. Decent Gift shop but a waste of admission price overall.

Beautiful garden dedicated to Van Gogh. Wonderful space to roam around for a short visit for those who appreciate the artist.

This is an old hospital where famed artist Van Gogh went for treatment not long before his death.
If you are familiar with his work there are three paintings that were painted here from his window.
They have successfully kept the garden with the same aspect as when Van Gogh painted it and you can easily find the spot in the garden with the same view and work out what room he was in at the time.

This is where Van Gogh spent some time being treated. It's no longer a hospital and is kind of somber and sad. There are several touristy gift shops just at the front. Just as an aside, I found Arles to be the least charming of all the French towns, villages, cities, etc. that I have seen the past two weeks on two river cruises, the Seine and the Rhone. Not sure whether it's the ride from Tasascon to Arles which is past commercial areas that are not attractive. And Arles itself seems unkept and dirty which was not the case all the other places we visited. If you found this review helpful please click on the Thank button below.

I have been to this place on three occasions. The first was just to have a look on a sunny day, where the flowers in the court yard got to show of their beautiful colors. The second time was with a couple of children where we went to find some books and movies in the library - it has a great selection in books as well as movies. The third time was in my own to attend a talk about animation documentaries. All three times was great experiences with nice and friendly staff.

Van Gogh created three paintings here while he recovered after having cut off his ear. The most recognized is of the garden and the two others were the communal ward and one of his doctors. The garden is colorful and evocative especially when you stand in front of the reproduction of the painting. They have carefully reconstructed the garden to resemble that in the painting and when we were there it was in colorful late autumn bloom. There were large groups of visitors in the gardens but up stairs the old communal ward is an art gallery and we had it on our own. The whole Van Gogh walk talking in the major venues with reproductions of the paintings is worth doing and it also covers most of the other highlights of old Arles.

This is one of the stops on the Van Gogh walk in Arles. They try to maintain it the way it is seen on the Van Gogh canvas a copy of which is displayed in front of the courtyard. It appears that he viewed it from the balcony, not from the ground, though I may be mistaken.

You can stop at either the tourist information center or at the Foundation Vincent Van Gogh to have your map marked with the points of the VG walk.

The hospital where Van Gogh famously painted his room and of the hospital itself. The outside of the hospital looks the same but it is now a university and the room that Van Gogh stayed in was destroyed in 1945 so you can't see it. The whole place takes 2 min to see since there isn't anything to actually visit or do.
