An exceptionally well preserved cloister. Make sure that you visit the roof area above the cloisters which provides another, unusual, walkway around the central garden (and nice angles for photographs). I had to push a bit to get access.

Beautiful and well preserved cloister. Considering the buildings date back to the twelfth century, the detail of the workmanship is astonishing. You can tell a lot of time and effort has gone into the restoration process too.

This was my favourite site in Arles - lots to see, and a beautiful sanctuary if you’re lucky enough to visit when it’s not too busy.

A very pretty cloister.
The entrance is on the square right next to the cathedral.
We took the advantage pass which includes 6 monuments and 4 museums for 19 euros. It is very advantageous and it is doable in one day for the 6 monuments because the museums are not all nearby.
We were able to climb onto the roof of the cloister which doesn't happen often.
We enjoyed it very much.

Well worth a visit. The cloister has been fairly recently renovated and some of the sculptures have been restored. Interesting to visit this alongside the Cathedral next door. Entry fee included in Arles Pass ticket.

The northern and eastern segments date from the 12th c, completed in Romanesque style. The southern and western parts were completed in the 14th c, in Gothic style. The richness of the bas-relief sculptures reflects not only the wealth of Arles but also its role as the starting point of the Via Tolosana pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela.

The Cloître Saint-Trophime is a beautiful and remarkably well-preserved cloister. Dating back to the twelfth century, the level of detail in the craftsmanship is truly astonishing, showcasing the skill and dedication of the artisans of that era. It's evident that a significant amount of time and effort has been invested in the restoration process, allowing visitors to appreciate the cloister's original splendor. Walking through the cloister, you can't help but be captivated by its serene atmosphere and architectural beauty. Overall, a visit to the Cloître Saint-Trophime is a memorable experience, offering a glimpse into the rich history and artistry of medieval France.

A cloister among the most beautiful, by period and type of decorations. The life of Jesus completely carved into the capitals of the double arches of the four sides. Sculpture groups and well-decorated tubs are located on the four corners... curiosity leads to the terrace to fully enjoy the top view of the cloister and bell tower

Magnificent well-restored cloister. No explanatory leaflet at reception but on the Arles tourism office website you will find explanatory sheets on each monument or bring a guide with you. the originality is that you can climb onto the roofs. Superb view of the stone tiles of the cloister. Be careful the steps are high. Take the pass valid for 6 months and pay for it in 3 visits

Well worth a visit (shell out for the multiple antiquities ticket - not a description of our travelling party by the way) and there is great value to be had as all other principal sights are included. Memorable and interesting. Almost enough to make one consider the monastic life.

We stopped here on a walking tour while visiting Arles during a river cruise. The St. Trophime Cloister and the Eglise St. Trophime is near the place de la Republique, (Republic Square) in the historic central square in the heart of Arles.

According to available literature, "The church's cloister was built at the same time and deserves a separate entry as it's one of Arles' indispensable sights. This part of the church was for the church's canons, whose routine resembled that of monks, removed from life in the city.

"The most captivating part is the northern and eastern galleries of the cloister, built much earlier than the southern and western ones: This is because work was halted when Counts of Provence, chose Aix as their seat of power instead of Arles.

"You have to study every pillar in detail as each one tells a story, whether it's Jesus' empty tomb after the transfiguration, Moses meeting God by the burning bush or St. Stephen being stoned"

Don't miss this historical, architectural beauty!
