Enjoyed this museum greatly especially the exhibit of the restored ship... Just wish there was more English translations. Newer areas did have more English which was great!

The best place to learn the history of Arles in this well organized museum. Learning how Arles started and became a Roman city under Julius Caesar made our trip to Arles more enjoyable. We were pleased with the artifacts and how they were used to explain the history of Arles. We would not have known that Arles once had a... More

The Roman barge they dug out of the Rhone river with all its artifacts is really worth seeing. Very nicely designed museum.

If you're interested in the history of Gaul and the Roman influence on the area this museum is a must-visit. As well as the usual collection of statues, sarcophagi etc there is also a Roman river barge, which was retrieved from the silt of the Rhone in recent years and which is miraculously preserved, along with most of its cargo.... We spend 6 fantastic hours in Arles. We started from Museum of Arles and we got our Combi ticket, including FIVE chosen attractions in Arles, for 9 euro/person. So we went to great Arena of Arles, where You may enjoy almost real bull fights on Sundays, The ancient Theater, Therms of Constantine and Saint Trophime Cloister, famous from its splendid... More

We went to Arles to see as much of the Roman history as the city had to offer. What most tourists don't know, is that there is a combi ticket available, (Info at the website of arlestourisme.com: http://www.arlestourisme.com/assets/files/horaires_tarifs_2.pdf) which lets you enter the archeological museum+ 4 monuments (for example cemetary, amthitheathre, baths and the granary) for a very cheap price.... Some of the best-preserved ancient Roman buildings are not in Italy, but are in France and Arles has dedicated this museum to it's Roman past. We asked for the English booklet, but they did not have any. Only a few of the posted information displays had English translations, but we found the museum to be extremely interesting anyway. This museum... More

The highlight of the museum is the 1st Century Roman barge that has been restored and is on display. It is impressively very long and you can see its cargo of rocks in the place that they were stored on the day it sunk. There is also a short film about the restoration effort which was a multi-year project. Other... More
