About

    Interessant maar geen ‘must see’

Beautiful museum very rude and antipathetic host.

We were welcomed by a very rude person shouting around as our COVID pass was not scannable . We asked for her supervisor who let us in as she checked the pass was not French but totally legal. Later on, the visit (31.08, 10 am) was conducted by the same very rude, aggressive, lady who kept on asking children not to talk as many of them excited and happy were wondering around asking questions. Everyone could see that she did not like her job, most of the group parties were annoyed by her behavior! The museum should definitely find someone else who would love working on such a beautiful environment!

This museum is cleverly designed - film, giant black and white photos, vintage machinery you can touch, glass cabinets, and interactive technology. You can watch the factory floor from windows on high, and rent an audio guide (French or English) for €3. It’s well done and there is plenty to learn. ‘Exit through the gift shop’ might be cliche, and unless you have an audio guide not actually necessary, but it is a marvellous gift shop - worth the browse for sure.

Four of us recently visited the Calisson Museum when we stayed in Aix-en-Provence. At the tourism office, I received helpful information and a bus schedule. It was suggested that we show the schedule and the Museum's brochure to the driver so that he would help us watch for our stop. We did, and he did!
At the museum, the English portions of the informational video weren't working, so I clicked on the French version simply to watch. A man stopped and told me to try the English, but when he saw that it wasn't working, he made sure that we understood the process of making Calissons. As it turned out, he was the production manager or something like that! He brought out lots of samples for us to try and was simply overall helpful. He obviously loves his job! He and the lady in the gift shop both made sure that we knew where to catch the bus back to Aix. This trip was a worthwhile adventure for 4 people who speak only basic restaurant/courtesy French!

It is a good visit to learn how they make the calissons. We were on our own and it was fine, glad we didn’t pay for a guided visit.
The virtual calisson making is a fun machine and you get a mini-calisson as a reward.
The shop is nice, but prices are higher than your regular supermarket. You though get some varieties and flavours that I have not seen in the stores.

Called in to buy a present and decided to visit the exhibition. Well worth it. Extremely well laid out and presented in both English and French. Learned a lot. Sadly the factory had finished production on the day but it is possible to look directly on to the factory floor and the videos in the museum explain the process. Entry is currently free.

I love a quirky outing and I really liked this as a fun hour or so out of Aix in the car. It's not a huge museum but it's a lovely site and actually rather an attractive brand new factory. The museum gives you a good idea of how calissons are made and their history.

It is all in French but even with fairly rudimentary French I enjoyed myself.

Also a well stocked shop full of calisson goodies, although if I'm honest these are not the best tasting calissons I've had by a long shot.

I was there on a Saturday and although there's a viewing area for the factory, no one was at work (naturally)!

This museum is very small, only one room. The displays are related to the history of calissons production, and all are in French with a small English translation in the corner.

There are large windows that allow for observation onto the factory floor. It was fascinating to watch the mass production. There is also a computerized interactive guide to the production floor.

In the back of the museum room there is a computerized game where visitors can "make" their own calissons. After successful "production" a hatch on the machine opens and samples are available inside.

Worth the 1 hour stop.
