Vieil Aix is a fascinating place. The "Old Aix" is a beautiful area. We walked around the streets observing, looking, enjoying everything there was on offer. There are wide and some narrow streets, shops, cafes, restaurants, patisseries, bread shops, and other types of shops, fountains, sculptures and more. And the architecture of the buildings is also worth the trip.

The Vieil Aix ( literally old City of Aix en Provence) , is a unique place to visit. offers you a old Roman/French/Provencal city. with old building going as far a 15th century.. even though there are some roman underground to see. fontaines everywhere are like signature of the city. Strongly recommand.

Good place to get a good photo although you will have to compete with plenty of other tourists. Plenty of history on show.

By a sunny whether it is nice just to stroll in the old town. Have coffee, crepes, or gauffres, as well as madelaine. When you want to eat in its many nice restaurants, do not hesitate, they are quite busy during lunch and dinner time.

The historic centre of Aix is beautiful. Lots of small streets with a plethora of Madonna and child statues on street corners. A lot of cobbles and uneven surfaces so people with mobility issues might struggle. There is a “train” with little carriages that drives through the town but I am not sure of the itinerary. Best check with a Tourist Office on the Rotonde. Spoilt for choice in terms of cafes and places to eat. Be aware, Aix is not a place to eat cheaply, I was told it is referred to as the 19th arrondissement (of Paris). That just about sums it up. Still, it’s historic, pretty and friendly. Many English speakers. Check out the Cathedral cloister, it’s stunning. The markets are good. One big caveat...the town streets are liberally covered in dog excrement. Seriously nasty so beware.
