Fontaine des Quatre-Dauphins is a lovely fountain in the middle of an intersection but in an area which does not seem to be very busy, so it is quite accessible. The fountain dates to around the 17th century. Worth a stop if you are passing by.

This charming fountain has not changed since we first saw it in the 1950's. It is just off the main street, the Cours Mirabeau, in a lovely area to walk around.

This fountain effectively forms the roundabout in the middle of Place des Quatre Daupins at the cross roads of the Rue Cardinale and the Rue du 4 Septembre. We walked past it several times each day on the way to and from our hotel, the Grand Hotel Roi Rene, and the old city.
The fountain is made out of two different types of stone and was carved in 1667 by the French sculptor Jean-Claude Rambot. The fountain has a circular base from which rises an obelisk that has four dolphins attached to it with their tails going upwards from the waves and water coming out of their mouths. On the top of the obelisk is a pine cone which was carved in the late 20th century.
Worth a quick look for its setting in the lovely square which has a tree in each corner.

Recently cleaned and restored, this fontain du Mazarin is a wee gem. I can recommend a particular restaurant immediately close by, le jardin.

This is a lovely spot in the shade where you can relax from trekking through old town Aix-en-Provence.

Out of all the fountains I saw in Aix, this proved to be my favorite. Perhaps that's because I came across the 1667 work unexpectedly, and its four plump stone dolphins with raised fins made me smile and stop for a while. Water pours from the dolphins' mouths, and they appear on waves that support an obelisk. This ornate composition by sculptor Jean-Claude Rambot is held by a pedestal set in a basin.
Located in the pleasant Mazarin Quarter, the fountain stands in a small square a few blocks south of Cours Mirabeau, the Old Town's main street.

In the centre of the small beautiful Place des Quatre Dauphins, the Fontaine des Quatre Dauphins is just as described, an Italianate marble fountain the main part of which is four beautifully carved dolphins each with water spouting from its mouth into a surrounding pool. From the centre of the four dolphins rises an obelisk crowned with a pine cone.
Designed by Jean-Claude Rambot and Pierre Pavillon and built in 1668, it is a lovely spot to sit in, under the shade of the large trees in the square.

What a charming little fountain, right near the Cours Mirabeau. It is a must see for a charming photo stop. There is nothing else to do but stop for a few minutes and move on
