There is nothing to dislike about this enormous park. The various walks are breathtaking. A trip to the Marvellous valley (4hr walk!) will take you to see rock carvings by prehistoric man. If you can't manage that, then you can see them faithfully reproduced at the museum in Tende. Due to it's size, access is from many areas, but you... More

We spent New Year walking and snowshoeing in the Mercantour with spacebetween (http://www.space-between.co.uk/). The area is really beautiful, unspoilt and feels remote - despite being within easy reach of Nice. Our small group of six enjoyed very different walks every day during the week we stayed, each expertly led by Mel - a professional guide. The area has so much... More

The wildlife (chamois especially) is all around you, bounding almost sideways up and around mountainsides. My son was thrilled to find a dead wolf near a trail (as a 12... More

We were lucky enough to have glorious weather on the late October day that we visited. Many of the hotels were closing for the season that weekend, so the trials were fairly quiet. We hiked for over 9 hours and made it to a total altitude of 2,614 metres, at which point we saw plenty of chamois and even a... More

We have been considering a hike in the Mercantour Park for a while having read about it in various places. We are a young couple who are not in terrible shape, but we are not avid hikers. We tried to walk to the Vallee des Merveilles with friends recently, starting at Les Mesches, but didn't make it before we were... More
