Very limited artefacts exhibited but the view is worth the staircase getting tinier and tinier as you go up. Watch out for the graffiti too from prisoners, testament from its rich history. Shame the person at reception was terribly rude (did not even say hello or goodbye).

If you go all the way to the top, the views are incredible! It can be windy, but it wasn't too bad the day I was there. The carvings from the prisoners was interesting, but I had made my way through here in about 30 minutes.

This is inspiring yet disturbing. To think that this lighthouse doubled up as a prison is weird. Yet they were not locked in, other than in the tower, so could walk up and down the stairs doing graffiti on the way! A must for any visitor.

I even found reference to men from my home town who had been held in the tower & immortalised by their carvings 350 years ago . Add to that the great views over La Rochelle - really hard to... More

We visited la Rochelle with our 8 yr old and 4 yr old and went up the middle tower, they loved it! Amazing views over this beautiful city, we walked along the wall to the beach. Enjoyable day out in this historical merchants city.
