Closes at 5pm so plan accordingly. Small reception building with bathrooms, but not a visitors center. Visit the visitor Center at the American Monument in Chateau-Theirry for an explanation of where these men died. There is no path from the cemetery into the adjacent Belleau...More

Very beautiful and powerful reminder of the sacrifices made during the great war. It's a must to walk the woods and go to the Marine museum in Belleau.

We visited as we were staying nearby. The cemetery is separate from the woods. Cemetery is beautifully maintained and is as thought provoking as other war graves. One thing to note is they close at 17.00 so don't leave it too late

The WWI Marine Memorial at Belleau Wood is set in a very tranquil setting. Not only are there many displays to look at but there are walking trails in the surrounding area. What made the biggest impression on me was all the bullet and shrapnel...More

My sons and I visiited this area and were awed by the lovely and tranquil setting that saw so much carnage near the end of WWI. Be sure to walk around to get a feel for the area and what our troops encountered there. It...More

The woods are now beautifully peaceful but very moving to realise that 100 years ago the woods were the scene of ferocious fighting at close combat. There are trails to follow with plaques giving details of the fighting.

Without exception, this tour with Gilles Lagin was the best battlefield tour I have ever taken and probably the best tour overall, I just can’t remember them all. Gilles, “jeeel”, is so passionate about his research of this specific moment in history that he can’t...More

Learning about the famous USMC battles at boot camp is one thing but actually coming to the location of one is quite another. I'm sure that it looks different after 100 years but it is a very solemn place.

My grandfather fought as a USMC officer at Belleau Wood. I have heard about the place all my life and more recently read about the awful battle there. It is very peaceful now. The trees have grown back. You can still see the foxholes. Anyone interested...More

I don't understand why a Marine would need a tour guide. I suggest that you do an on-line recon. I had no guide last year I found the GPS coordinates ahead of time on-line and easily drove my rental car from Chateau Thierry... More

We didn't use a guide. Our time was short because there were a few other USMC places in the area that we wanted to visit that day. So we just drove to the the Marine Memorial and walked around the wood.
