We came here after being recommended by others who stayed where we were. They do a free tour of the caves and show you the processes of bottling the alcohol. Although I would have liked more information about wine itself, it was a really tour showing you how they bottle the wine and making it sparkling etc. For a free tour, it’s very good. It’s about an hour long and is around 12 degrees in the caves so make sure you bring a jacket! Really interesting what goes into making the wine and you get a taster at the end. We did buy some bottles to take with us at very reasonable prices and amazed at the effort that goes into making the wine. Would recommend as a rainy day activity or you are interested in wine!

We did not do a tour but enjoyed our wine tasting.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and the bubbles were delicious.

We had the good fortune to be in Saumur at Easter and saw there was the chance to visit on the Sunday when many other wineries were closed. It was a superb 2 hours entertainment for 2€ each, including a free tasting glass.
Whilst we waited for the tour to start we were able to sample as many of the wines as we wished and there were 2 guitarists playing and singing to add to the party atmosphere. At the start of the tour they serenaded us into the Caves.
Our 2 guides then alternated and we were well informed on the historic and present day methods of production. Further sampling happened along the way to prevent anyone dying of thirst. Tour lasted an hour and was well paced with audience participation using some of the antique machinery used previously.
Finally we emerged into the sunshine with another glass where the musicians further entertained us, and some of the party danced. Wines were sensibly priced but there was no necessity to buy or pressure in that respect.
I feel sure a visit here would always be good but we counted ourselves especially fortunate.
The only question remains why did so many widows (veuves) end up with sparkling wineries?!

Nous sommes heureux que vous ayez apprécié cette visite ! Quant à votre question sur le grand nombre de Veuves .... cela reste un mystère pour l'instant.

Great experience, good your guides and it's all FREE. Plan to visit the caves before or after August to see all in action. Sparkling wines are great to buy!

Unique experience to visit a major bulles producer that is still using their original caves for production and storage. Go Monday through Thursday to see all the machinery in action. Excellent tour, wonderful tasting, and one of the few in Saumur that is still free leaving you cash for an extra bottle of this superb wine. Highly recommend.

Planned to go to Bouvet Laudubay, but they wanted us to wait almost an hour for a tour so wandered down the road to Veuve Amiot where they put on a tour within 5 minutes free of charge (LB wanted €4 each) and translated into English (the LB tour would have been in French).

The guide (Tanguy) was amazing, and his English was much better than my French!

This is the only champagne or champagne- method producer which admits that virtually all its wine is now produced mechanically, and not only that but is prepared to show you how it is done. I'm a big kid when it comes to production lines, and this one was up there with the best.

The tasting at the end is also free, and you can buy the wines at pretty much supermarket prices so what's not to like ? They're almost unobtainable in the UK so buy some and impress your friends!

Hello, We thank you for your opinion and we are very happy that you enjoyed our visit. The message will be sent to Tanguy who will, I think, be glad that you took the time to leave us your opinion. It is true that our products are not in England so do not hesitate to come back to see us during your next visit to Saumur. thank you,

We picked up a leaflet from Veuve Amiot from our hotel and rolled up there on a Bank Holiday morning. We are fairly experienced wine drinkers, but the quality of their wines exceeded our expectations. A lovely young lady explained about their various sparkling wines and knowledgeably answered our questions. The real surprise was their Zero Degrees – non-alcoholic sparkling wine – it’s really good. We bought two lots of three bottles from their main range, and a couple of Zero Degrees – well, there could an occasion when we are serving sparkling wine and somebody isn’t allowed alcohol. We now have the answer.

Somewhat rushed due to other commitments, but what a fascinating tour. Miles of cellars racked with maturing wines and an epically good tasting.
