About
The Combier distillery was founded in 1834 in the Loire Valley. Since the creation of the Original Triple sec, a delicious orange liqueur made with bitter and soft orange peels, the distillery has never stopped producing distinguished liqueurs and other spirits in the same original copper stills. We offer you today a full handcrafted range of liqueurs, aperitifs, premium absinthes, syrups and organic syrups. For an english guided tour, please contact us!

Some friends of ours have given us their products and we were pleased when we picked up a leaflet in the tourist Office and realised it was nearby. The leaflet included two free places on the tour.

We turned up at 2:20 for the 2:30 tour and there were a handful of people in front. My wife went to the till to book us on, but as soon as the woman saw the free leaflet the tour was suddenly full and she was very rude. No apology or offer to go on the next tour. At €5 a tour we weren't too bothered about paying, and were more interested in buying, but given her stance felt we had no option but to leave.

We saw the Distillery from the little tourist train, and decided to visit 'on spec'. Needin a new hip, I was on crutches so got in free! My wife had to pay, but not much, it was an inexpensive entry fee. The visit took about an hour, was in French (but with just a basic level you would understand) and expecting the visit to entail walking, I was surprised to be shown into the room in the photo. It is a working distillery, and this is basically it! However, we were offered samples of loads of things to taste, and the process was explained well. The young lady doing the explanations was great fun. This visit was not free though, we ended up buying some great drinks, and gained the understanding that while the region is known for wine, there are more quality drinks that do not get the credit they deserve. Recommended.

Very interesting place to visit with a tour of the distillery showing the process of making Triple Sec. Tasting at the end of tour. Certainly recommended is the Cherry Creme.

We enjoyed this tour very much. I can't speak French but my partner can. I was given a print out in English so that I could understand what was being said. We were very impressed with the enthusiastic guide who seemed to enjoy her job. The information was interesting and engaging and the distillery was lovely.

The tasting at the end of the tour was varied and interesting. I don't like triple sec particularly but it was interesting to find out how it was made and there were plenty of other things to try and buy- we went for rose liqueur made with petals from the loire valley.

We were so impressed by the original, and very small, distillery equipment, room, space, size and staff of Combier! A visit here for my manufacturing minded husband was like dropping into the rabbit hole. It’s simply astonishing what they accomplish with such a small operation. The tasting after the tour was pretty good, too. I especially enjoyed the syrups as I’m not much of a drinker, but our little tour group was able to sample some fresh spirits and had a lively discussion. Very local, very old, very special!

Last tour on Monday and I'm the sole tour participant. How exclusive to have a private tour of this nearly 200-year old distillery! I got to hear the great story on how the original Combier started his triple sec production. I was shown the orange peels from Haiti that a lady prepared by hand for the liquor. The tour concluded with a tasting of some of Combier's stock. Indeed, a very interesting tour.

We really enjoyed the tour and tasting experience that we had at the distillery today. You get a history lesson in how the distillery started its life as an independent, how it's evolved, how and when the various drinks were developed, and how it's an independent distillery again. The facility was designed by Eiffel and remains unchanged since the 19th century.

Tatiana made both the talk and tasting session interesting and informative. We spent a very enjoyable hour and a half there.

One last thing, this is probably more a tour for adults. Children probably won't be interested. However Combier sell non alcoholic syrops as well as the alcoholic ones. These are also delicious and very much recommended.

Visited this small distillery while in Saumur. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The whole distillery is about to have a major overhaul so the visit will soon change. The tasting before and after is very good with a good explanation of the the liqueurs and there history.
I would highly recommend if you have an hour or so to burn.

The Combier distillery is a very interesting, fully active, trading and functioning distillery. The tour was full of information on the history of the distillery and followed up with tastings. Highly recommend this tour.

for Euro 5 you get a 30 minute tour with the history and the fantastic distillery machinery room (very 19th century) and then 30 minute tasting of everything they produce pretty much including triple sec and absinthe - great fun. My kids don't speak French but the guide answered their questions in English after doing her tour in French which was very nice. Great customer service as well - which is quite rare in France. I would say more personal than the big cognac houses. They have a huge selection for sale.
