About
Tourisitc visits of Ackerman's cellars in Saumur and tasting. A three-part visit at the heart of troglodyte cellars: a trip throughout history, an artistic experience and a break on the Loire river... Founded in 1811, Ackerman is the leading producer of Loire Valley fine sparkling wines. Situated in Saumur, on the banks of the Thouet river, a tributary of the Loire, at once informative and entertaining, the cellars of the House of Ackerman combine charm, heritage, and prestige. The wines of Ackerman are true to type, well-balanced and elegant. Thanks to a large selection of fine sparkling wines (Cremant de Loire, Saumur Brut) and Loire Valley still wines (Saumur-Champigny, St Nicolas de Bourgueil, Chinon, Sancerre...), you will be able to appreciate the prestige of a great brand which has seduced consumers world-wide over the past two centuries. Ackerman is bubbly, luminous and enticing. The House's still, sparkling, organic and alcohol-free wines are available at its boutique all year round. Discover Ackerman's world of wines.

Wonderful experience for all the family. If you're after lots of wine knowledge this may not be for you, but if you're visiting with kids and want a bit of knowledge and a tasting, but also want the kids to be entertained, I can't recommend this enough. The art installations were incredible for both us and our 5 year old. The 'cabin' which you could fully climb into at the end was unlike any other piece of art I've seen and my daughter found it absolutely rivetting. The wooden games at the end were a huge hit too. The tasting was just right and we went away with 2 lovely bottles of bubbly. Definitely recommend!

Located in a beautiful street of wine cellars. Fun visit to the caves, enjoyed by both adults and children. We went on a very hot day and wandering these vast cellars for an hour was a lovely respite from the heat.
The children especially enjoyed the art installations, “son et lumiere”
It was busy when we visited, so the tasting was slightly disappointing- only got to try one of the Ackerman sparkling wines and a only a tiny dribble at that! We did buy three bottles to take home but would have bought more if we had been able to taste them.
All in all worth a visit for a family.

Well that was unexpected, went for wine tasting ended up literally in an art installation. Wine tasteing and museum are all good but art was worth admission alone. Also old style games to play at end. Amazing space and quite other worldly with acoustics and visual art pieces.

We visited Ackerman's again this year after first visiting in 2017. The caves are really interesting along with the art installations. They really do have some lovely produce and the Royal Rouge is a personal favourite, we ended up getting 7 bottles.

However it is very disappointing to find you can get it all cheaper by €2-3 a bottle at the local Carrefour Market Distre. When you are buying 12 plus bottles like we did this makes a huge difference in price.

We had an amazing self guided tour of the caves. You would not expect there to be these vast caves which stretch so deep into the cliff behind the main entrance. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, especially Inès who was able to tell us in detail about the different wines Ackerman had to offer.

Thank you all!

We spent a couple of hours here on a particularly hot day. Self-guided tour was leisurely and it was a very quiet day so not many other people around really. The exhibit is informative and the art displays were good too. We enjoyed the free tasting at the end and bought 6 bottles to take home. Not all the bottles made it home as we drank them on holiday so I will have to find somewhere in the UK which sells Ackerman Cremant de Loire.

A very enjoyable and fascinating tour of this old sparkling wine producer - as famous as Champagne in its day and equally as good - the caves are very impressive, the clever French static displays and designs inside very enjoyable and a treat are the various old fashioned ball and other games you can play just before getting back to the tasting rooms. M. Matisse de Caravelho was very professional and helpful with the tasting and choosing wines and Mme. Claire Plassais was also very kind and extremely knowledgeable about the Chateau, its economic importance and history. Well worth a morning or afternoon visit and plenty of free parking close by.

Went here for a gentleman serves us spoke very good english and was very knowledgeable about the products. He helped us deciding what to buy and we ended up leaving with a case of different wines. One of the better places to taste in the local area.

We visited Ackerman winery last week. We had visited Saumur before but not the sparkling wine caves. We decided to visit the Ackerman company and it was well worth it. There is a small fee to tour the original cellars which usually includes an art installation but the fee is redeemed if you make a certain number of purchases. Once you have sampled their wines it's difficult not to walk away with a case or two. Staff excellent, very friendly, professional and spoke good English although we tried our best in French. I,m sure the others are just as good but this one topped it with the art installation which was worth the entrance fee alone, I won't spoil the effect by describing it.

Visited the Ackerman caves in Saumur with wife and 3 teenagers. Booked tickets at the Tourist Information Office in Saumur - great value at €3.50 each for an audio guided tour. The Caves were easy to find and the displays of the wine making process were well thought out. Topped off with free wine tasting at the end! We came away with a few cases!! Great place!
