After finding the Château at Angers unexpectedly closed, we visited Plessis-Bourre. A guided tour was starting a few minutes after we arrived so we took that. The château is quite unusual in having been built entirely in one period and it has been restored by...More

A not too long visit, with excellent explanations from the guide. Outstanding decoration, exceptional in its conception. The castle served as the setting of a cult French movie starring Catherine Deneuve. A beautiful inspiring place.

Shuts between 12 and 2pm and you can only visit with a guide. Tours start at 10.30am. We took ours at 2.30pm and takes about an hour to go around. One snag is they speak hardly any English. Although you are given an A4 size...More

Really enjoyed the tour of this chateau just outside of Angers. It was a rainy morning, so not an ideal day to go, but we had purchased a CityPass the day before, and we needed to make it pay off! The tour is in French,...More

Both tripadvisor and the Rough Guide gave this place great reviews, so we gave it a shot! Absolutely amazing building, used in many historical movies, with a sympathetic but French only guide. There were many fine and interesting rooms to visit, but the chateau iteself,...More
