A must stop if you are visiting the Chateaus of the Loire valley in France. Stay for a couple of days in a nearby hotel or guest accommodations in Chinon the ancient town situated below the castle ramparts and well worth exploring. There is now...More

This fortress on the Vienne river is very evocative of the era of Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine. The self-guided tour provides considerable background both on the construction methods and on the use of the fortress in its strategic location. There are also great...More

Ignore your Sat Naff which will take you to the foot of the castle with a long walk up, follow the tourist road sign to a car park much nearer the visitor centre. Home of Henry the 2nd of England and France this Castle has...More

Nice views of Chinon and very interesting visit with a plenty of history. Guide tour with videos, guide-book and strategic points with voice! One of the most important points of midle edge's.

Basically, a ruined castle (rocks) with several parts repaired. More interesting is the video recreations of past events and displays to engage the adults & kids. Views to the south overlooking the Vienne river are worth the trip.

Given that this has a Trip Advisor "Certificate of Excellence", it's a bit surprising that it is not listed in "Things to do in Chinon"! OK, it's high above the town but there is a free lift up from the lower level. Having got up...More

To our surprise, we spend 3hours in the castle and enjoyed it very much. The interactive information was well done and there is a lot of interesting aspects to view. The views from the castle were lovely.

Proper medieval castle, with gatehouse, battlements, arrowslits, moat and endless underground stairways rooms and passages. Add some well put together trébuchet demonstrations and a gift shop well stocked with models of knights princesses and dragons and you have 4 year old heaven, not to mention...More
