Amazing views of the town below. You can get a lift from the car park to 3/4 of the way up - helpful, if it's 45 degrees Celsius. We got €2 off the ticket as we had been to another historical moummenent. Lots to see. There are short movies in each of the rooms which are in English and French.... More

Really loved this place. The views were amazing and the entrance fee was very reasonable. There was a lot to see, and a lot of steps to climb. Loved the little cardboard cutouts dotted around the grounds. Worth noting some parts seemed a little dangerous as some barriers and walls on the highest points were quite low.

Great chateau. It is an old fortress/ castle, as opposed to many of the other Chateau, that has seen a siege and has had a history for over 1000 years. The Chateau had arranged special events on the day we visited, for an extra 3 euros, which included a falconry display, performers in costume, an apothecary and so on. Excellent... More

This is a real gem! So interesting and very well presented without overdoing the information. Loads to see for young and old. There are a lot of stairs so not good if you have limited mobility. I would check first to see what facilities are available for wheelchair access as I didn't really look for this. They have people in... More

It's a good castle with real history but there is a lot missing. The building, in local beautiful cream stone is impressive but the animations as part of the tour were really poor. Joan of Arc was there....but all that we see is a film of her travelling silently through a wood, giving her sword to a church and mincing... More

The fortress is at the top of a steep hill, (there is a lift from the town to just over 3/4 of the way up) , as to be expected. The stunning views are breathtaking. The history surrounding the life of the kings and queens are made easy to understand and interesting, by the excellent little guide book which is... More

The location is pretty spectacular but what you are visiting is mostly a reconstruction. The interpretive videos inside are pretty confusing and the artifacts from the archaeological excavations are so poorly lit they are difficult to see properly. If you do visit I highly recommend that you take the free 'guided tour' at the beginning of your visit. This is... More

If you are a fan of early French/English history or the movie Lion in Winter, then you will want to tour Château de Chinon, a fortress and château above Chinon and the River Vienne. You can follow a day in the life a queen as you tour the sites and view well-produced videos that enhance the experience in several of... More

The fortress holds an imposing position above the village. I took my best photo by taking the free elevator down to the village and walking across the bridge to the distant shore.
