The square looks out on the Jeanne d'Arc church and the ruins of the bombed church. All visitors come and go, while you're having a drink at one of the terraces or just by sitting on the remains of the old church.

This is the place where Joan of Arc was executed for heresy in 1431. The place had been modified and a Church dedicated to Joan of Arc was built in 1979 in modernist style. Many restaurants and a small park surrounded the church. It is a good place to end your walk from the pedestrian street.

In winter this place is quiet and friendly. Some good restaurant on the square. Because it was christmastime there was a large wheel on the square but it wasn't doing its turns. Atmosphere was very relaxed.

It was tipping with rain when we were here and we were saddened that couldn't visit the church (never did find out why). The gardens around church were beautiful. BUT we found the best place to eat at lunchtime. Maison Hardy is a delicatessen/traiteur/restaurant. Similar food sold in all three. Lots of locals eating there at lunchtime (including big parties... Loved being here. Impressive architecture and nice spot to while a way time. Fortunately the day I was there it was not too crowded. Suspect it could be a bit of a crush otherwise.

Usr the car park under the square (not expensive for the top location)2.Excellent public toilets on the end of the church furthest away from clock 3.Restuarants on the square ok but very expensive /... A broad plaza ringed with shops. The setting is superb with beautiful buildings - a beautiful spot to take in an afternoon drink and watch people - in our case the student / worker demonstrations 20 meters away.

We used a public parking just under the square , and started here our tour of Old Rouen . Old timber 12th/13th century buildings with shops and cafes . In the Middle of the square - the rather modern church of St.Joan of Arc(see separate review) .

The Old Market Place has so much history playing such an important role in the demise of Joan d'Arc. The square is surrounded by old buildings and you should up to admire the marvellous architecture. Dotted around the square are various cafes, bars and restaurants. Rest a while and drink in the ambience! The Cafe de Rouen is particularly recommended.... More
