This Cathedral is stunning and absolutely worth a trip. I have seen the Cathedral twice now and it's spectacular no matter how many times I see it. In early Aug, I had the opportunity to visit for the Cathedral of Lights 2021. If you have a chance to go to Cathedral in the evening for this spectacular evening show, I highly recommend it. The audio visual presentation is about 30-45 minutes long. The projections overlay the Cathedral and it's a really unique way to see such an amazing piece of history.

We were on a cruise that had cancelled a port in Hamburg and added Le Havre . Decided to take a train journey to Rouen and spend the day sightseeing.
The Cathedral with its gothic church spires ( of different designs) is impressive. Built between the 8th and 16th February you stand in front of it in awe of its design.
It was damaged in WW2 during the Normandy landings.
Inside we we visited there were a number of school children singing carols .
The stained glass windows are spectacular- and you should look for the tomb of Richard the Lionheart which is there.

This Gothic cathedral is magnificent. You can see the towers from afar as you approach the city and so is a handy landmark! The towers all have different styles and one is called the Butter Tower because of its colour and the fact that the faithful could eat butter there during lent if they paid a dispensation. The Gothic Style Cathedral was first started in the 1100s on the sight of previous cathedrals. It was enlarged over many centuries and also suffered damage during various French Wars and also the two World Wars. The front facade is an elaborate work with 3 portals depicting various scenes. Inside the numerous stained glass windows are in different styles. Among the various tombs of the Dukes of Normandy you can find the tomb of Richard the Lionheart which contains the King’s heart. Well worth a visit.

Come and see why Monet painted this lovely cathedral. I recommend many returns at different times of the day to see what Monet saw, as the light changed. It is huge and magnificent and catches the light in a different way as the day progresses. Awesome.

This is one of the top five gothic cathedrals in France. It is spectacular. You step in front and you feel its immensity. The interior is like most of this type of churches, huge spaces, columns, vitrals... It has a painting in its main altar.
Perfect for taking photos.

This is a very attractive cathedral which to my mind is on a par with Notre Dame un Paris.

The cathedral itself has a very attractive exterior with its two different towers. The whole facade is intricately carved.

Inside is one of the most famous tombs in Christendom - that of the English king Richard the Lionheart who died whilst fighting in Limousun, France on the 26 March 1199, shot in the shoulder by a young French crossbowman, whom Richard 1l forfave before dying.

The interior itself is impressive in its stripped down Gothic style.

The light show held at 10 pm in the evening is spectacular. The first part was about William the Conqueror, and the second - the New World.

It captivates you as soon as you lay your eyes on it. The impressive size and the amount of detail of the cathedral are just amazing. We arrived a few days after New Year and it looked like there was a market in the plaza area in front of it, there were just the closed stalls around the area.
The carvings of the structure is even more amazing as you get a closer look. It's almost as if it was all made from a single piece of rock. The interior is as impressive. The golden altar is located at the back of the church. the tall ceilings make the place look humungous. There was also a model of the nativity near the entrance at the back. There were quite a few side altars in the church, including one for Saint Joan of Arc. The Cathedral is something that is worth going to if you are in Rouen. I can't compare to Notre Dame in Paris since it was closed off due to the fire when I went.

Every summer night the façade on the front of Rouen cathedral lights up with spectacular visuals depicting historical events. The event is free all you have to do is turn up and stand in the square with hundreds of others and watch. I believe starting times vary each season so best check when you visit. Of course, the Cathedral is amazing during the daytime, so much detail carved onto the facade and the huge space inside with soaring arches to the high ceiling. The highlight of a visit to Rouen.

I must admit I am not a big fan of church visits but the architecture of Notre-Dame de Rouen was simply amazing, both inside and out. Well worth the time for a stroll through. In the evening we came back to see a light show projected on the cathedral and again this was well worth the time spent.

Our visit to the Cathedral Notre-Dame de Rouen was perhaps the top highlight of our brief stay in Rouen. While we visited several impressive cathedrals in Belgium and France during our European vacation in 2019, the one in Rouen was particularly stunning. It was easy to see why Money chose this beautiful structure as the subject of several of his paintings.

Inside the ceilings soar under the Gothic arches that the marble columns hold up by sheer force of gravity. There are many impressive architectural features in the church, but probably most impressive are the dozens (hundreds) of carved statues that adorn the exterior of the church.

If you happen to be in town during the summer and the cathedral is holding its evening light shows, do not miss it! This was one of the coolest things we saw over the entire three weeks of our holiday, and we still talk about the images, music, and animation today. The photos and video you might see online do not do it justice, so if you have a chance to see it in person, don't pass it up!
