If you enjoy looking at French paintings, this museum will be a good place for you. You can see here French paintings ranging from the middle ages to modern times. There are also a few paintings from other European countries like Italy and Spain. However, the collection of impressionist paintings is not as great as the museum boasts about.

The musée is housed in a beautiful building, and it houses a modest but reasonable collection of art pieces. It is one of the few museums we have been to on our European travels that doesn't allow photographs of its holdings, which can be advantageous as you pay more attention to the pieces themselves. There is an interesting collection of... More

Apparently, this gallery houses the second largest collection of paintings outside Paris. The gallery itself is beautiful, with an impressive entrance hall and lovely natural lighting in most of the salons. Although the progression from one salon to the next is somewhat puzzling, this gallery offers a wide viewing selection, particularly of romantic and impressionist painters. Well worth the visit,... Very nice museum with significant collection of artwork. Found it was a little difficult to navigate around, but generally an interesting and beautiful place to visit.

The museum is free for the permanent collection. I was there on a Saturday afternoon and there were only a handful of visitors. They have Sisley, Monet, Pisarro, le Maitre, Fantin LeTour and a very impressive collection of Italian religious works. One hall of Impressionist paintings was closed off for a local painter - I could see a painting by... More

What I loved about this museum was its collection and the lack of large crowds which diminish the experience of visiting the museum. Monet's painting Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Rouen was left me spellbound and the best surprise for me was finding the Renoir of chrysanthemums, which I had not expected. I loved the experience here completely. So many lovely exhibits... More

Very well set out museum, but work tends to be very modern (15C onwards) with nothing medieval. Excellent impressionist works including Monet, Sisley and Degas.

Nice well located museum in the middle of town that offers a break from a long day of city walking. There's also a nice cafe just past the Joan of Arc Tower that's a great place to grab a glass of wine before you head back to the train station. These were my two favorite places during a 5 hour...
