Le Havre didn’t really show a sunny side. But there still was some interesting and crazy things to find. The architecture stuff of Oscar Niemeyer was impressive from inside and outside, looking like a volcano caldera, housing a theater and a huge public library. But the building materials were quite a wrong decision, inevitably producing damages. Several roofs were lacking, so they had buckets at a lot of places to collect the water dripping in - at least the buckets had a label of Oscar Niemeyer - they really know how to solve problems! It was interesting! I‘m really thinking of declaring the vacation as a business trip, it was highly educational to me.

The Volcan, also known as the yogurt pot, is an amazing architecture by Oscar Niemeyer.

It looks so out of place in the straight lines of Le Havre's Perret.

Inside is an incredible public library and a really nice restaurant.

Strange building - finally reaching the end of its renovations and changes - Starting to look very good and back as an iconic building to see

Strange design when you look at it from the outside, looks like a big power plant chimney smack in the middle of the town. But looks can be deceiving. Once you go inside and you find out the history of the place, it is not too bad really.

OMG! What is this? During the daytime it is huge and imposing and not attractive at all. They are public buildings and serve a purpose but they are truly ugly and folks either walk on by or stop to be puzzled by the ugly design.

There’s not a lot to do in Le Havre (but we like the shopping). So we walked by. We did not go inside as we were not interned in the theater or library.

Le Volcan is both a library and theatre and you can just walk in. Even if you don’t go inside, this building is worth a look for its novel design and architecture. Worth 20 minutes or so.

Wondered what this building was so wandered in for a look around.
It is a big library and theatre stage, amazing for the locals with some people just sat around reading in quiet areas. The cafe was also good value for snacks and coffee

A modern French town where the Seine River meets the English Channel. Le Havre was almost completely destroyed during WW11 and has been rebuilt as a beautiful modern city with just touches of the few historic buildings that have remained. It is an architects’ town beginning with the Museum of Art and the Le Volcan, an auditorium and library. Check out the schedule before planning your trip if you want tickets. The downtown area near the Le Volcan is complete with pedestrian promenade of bars, restaurants and small shops
