A lovely collection reflecting the history of the port and domestic life there, housed in an ancient and rather ramshackle building of great character in its own right.
It is not large, but its different rooms and artefacts offer views of ways of life and occupations now long gone. Many interesting items on display.
It is a nice example of what a small local museum can be and is well worth a visit.
I note that one reviewer mentions that photography is not allowed - I think that is "with flash"; I took dozens !!

The town is like a fairytale and the people very sweet. We walked through this charming small town saw old architecture up close and personal had enough personal time to walk around and actually shop and talk to locals. Beautiful old carousel worth taking in.

This museum is just off the little harbour of Honfleur. After a couple of visits to Honfleur, we decided we had time to visit this museum on this occasion before moving on. We were not disappointed. One thing you have to remember is that there are two parts to it. The first part is in a very old house a little way up an alley off the harbour but well signposted. It seems to have such a mixture of all kinds of historical items together with a recreated period room in one part and a recreated shop in another. There are steps to climb and a circular staircase in one part but there is a rope (bannister) to hold on to if you are not in the first flushes of youth.
The second part of the museum is actually contained in an old church right on the waterfront just around the corner. This part is devoted to all things to do with ships as well as a lovely stained glass window. This part is not big and so does not take as much time to view as the former. It is a shame there is not a guide book or postcards to buy except for a couple of uninteresting ones.
On another occasion we visited the Boudin Museum with its lovely paintings and the Satie museum with its whimsical exhibits - both very different and it makes Honfleur with its lovely harbour, shops and cafes a delight for everyone.

This museum has two parts: an old, old house full of dusty artifacts of daily life in 19th century Honfleur and a nautical museum in an old, old church right on the quai St-Etienne. The nautical museum is more polished than the daily life collection, but I loved it all. These museums were created by people (mostly local volunteers, I suspect) who love Honfleur and want to preserve its history, and its unquestionable value comes from this heartfelt authenticity and its local vision. Among other things, the recreation of the 19th century shop with all its clutter and dusty mannekin shopkeeper brings the past to life. Well worth the visit.

This shows how people of past centuries lived in Honfleur. Very enlightening and worth the nominal fee. If you like history, or if the weather is bad its a good place to visit for an hour or so.

This small museum is tucked away on a small street so you may have to search for it. It displays the living conditions of people during the middle ages. I have never seen anything like this museum; it is truly unique.

Once we had found this Museum, which is located down a very small alley off a road behind the front row of Harbour buildings, we thought it was charming. It is a bit like Dennis Severs house is London, if you know it, in that it has been made to look inside like a traditional property furnished with local furniture and stuff from the the period. Try to visit it during a quiet time as there is not much room to move about. We headed there immediately we arrived in Honfleur on a Saturday, which is Market Day, and I can imagine it gets very busy with people with the patience to find it. As stated in other reviews, don't forget to visit the Maritime Museum which is included in your admission fee. This was about €5.30. Good value.

We were in Honfleur for a few hours mid September. As I review the pictures in my IPhone, I remembered thinking as we walked down the cobblestone street, I felt I was on a Hollywood movie set from the production Oliver. Narrow streets embracing this wooden structure with bars on the doors and windows, looking like a jail in a section to the left of the Museum. The museum itself was closed that day, but it left an impact from days gone by. Keep walking straight to the harbor housing many modern sailboats and a few artists with easels. Such a juxtaposition!

Old fashioned buildings and contents, with an old fashioned feel and presentation look. Quite interesting, worth 30 minute visit, particularly if bought with a joint ticket for the maritime museum in the church next door.Less than £5 for an adult to visit both.

If you are interested in experiencing historical spaces, this is an amazing museum set in an ancient building. It offers a strong sense of what daily life was like.
