We spend three outstanding days here in August 2020 as part of the Deauville festival. We would have returned a couple of weeks later but our plans were undone by the change in status of France as a country exempt from Corona Travel Restrictions. The course offers good viewing, friendly Tote staff and a range of good refreshment options. If you're serious about your racing, buy a stand ticket for the festival which was a bargain 60 euros for two, if purchased in advance from Galop. This covers you for FIVE whole weeks of racing, for less than the cost of three individual days, plus you get a souvenir lanyard to show off to your racing buddies. We will return!

I have lived near Deauville for many years.
First of all, it is important to point out that there are actually two racecourses at Deauville - Clairefontaine (the pretty one) and Le Touques (the prestigious one). The big races are at Le Touques. But both courses have a great atmosphere and great restaurants. Good activities for kids too.
Remember, this is France where 'Egalite' very much exists so there is very little differentiation between racegoers. Only the owners and trainers have their own bar/restaurant.
Also, this is the coast in August so the French are very much 'en vacances' and their dress demonstrates this - it smart casual and no-one does this quite like the Parisians although you might catch a glimpse of a Chanel jacket on an owner. If you dress as you would for Ascot or Aintree you will be very much out of place.

Excellent day out for the enthusiast and the occassional race goer.Cheap entry compared to the UK or free for certain race days we went when there were some group II and III racing and paid 4 euros.
Lovely setting only a 15 min walk from the centre of deauville and if your driving you can usually find someone around the course to park for free! and of course there are car parks.
Picking winners is not easy but just go for the fun and atmosphere its also very family friendly. Dress is smart or casual depending on your mood we were in shorts and T shirts lazing in deck chairs!
Tre Bon.

The review should Not be Average it should be Good. This is a gorgeous setting. However I'm not sure if they weren't expecting the crowds or they just didn't bother to cater. The poor bar staff were run off their feet. They did do a really good job, but standing in line for a drink for 40mins is ridiculous.. They also shut the toilets in the back 'Garden area' mid afternoon as they were blocked!!! They also ran out of beer with 2 races to go. Don't get me wrong, we had a great day. Its a beautiful setting, you are up close & personal with Horses, jockeys & trainers. The coarse is really close to town. We actually walked to & from the track. A BIG Tip to anyone from Australia.. Its very casual.. I rocked in in my frock & heels with a lovely headpiece, I looked ridiculous...

Went for the Prix Mornay and the day before too. The Saturday was spectacular. Only £10 euros to get in and a perfect set up once inside with space to move, great bars and food and just the nicest ambience. For the big race day on Sunday everything was a little more busy but then the horses were the best in any race in Europe this year.
Much nicer than most UK racing now, with everyone smartly but casually dressed and without a drunken stag or hen party, slag tagged midriff or crushed cleavage in sight.

Excellent facilities close to the centre of town. Very reasonable entrance fee. 5.90 euro for a pint 5 euro for a glass of wine. Great viewing from main grandstand. Free race card at every meeting.

Great location for the racecourse, easy walk from Deauville & Trouville & the station. Great facilities, only cheap to get in and reasonable prices for food & drink - cheaper to go to the races than eat & drink in the town!

If you are a fan of the races or just curious to see what all the fuss is about, this racetrack is a great place to spend the day. Unlike the frenzied North American tracks, this is a scenic, polite and civilized venue. Betting the races is a challenge if you don't speak French, but if you don't try to get overly sophisticated in your wagering, the ticket vendors will be able to help you out.

Food is much better than North American racetrack fare. Caution that most seats at the panoramic restaurant at Touques do not offer a good view of the track, although there is a viewing platform just off the dining room that you can use to watch the races. There are other options for food, all of which are a bit overpriced, but not ridiculous, and the quality of the food reflect the pride the locals take in their produce and cuisine. You can also take your own picnic if you like.

This track is walking distance from pretty much anywhere in Deauville. We paid a small admission fee, but I note that other reviewers indicate that they did not. It might depend on the day of the week - we were there for some of the bigger races. In any event, it was not much. I forget the amount, but we're talking 3 or 4 euros per person.

This is a family friendly venue, complete with children's activities. It's a clean, well organized facility.

This is the larger of the two race tracks at Deauville; I actually prefer the second one, Clairefontaine, but La Touques is still a great place to go.
There are lots of places to eat and drink and lots of places to sit or stand to watch the racing. The quality of the races can be of a high standard and we saw horses belonging to the Aga Khan and Sheikh Hamdan whilst we we over there, as well as seeing Frankie Dettori have 2 winners at the same meeting.
It is a very cheap admission price compared to British racecourse, although a lot of hotels have free entry vouchers- so ask before you go.
Give it a try, even if you don't know much about racing, it's so cheap you can't really go wrong!

During 3 consecutive days we could visit the horse races in Le Touques in Deauville.
This was good fun and a good learning experience with helpfull people at the counter to assist with the different possibilities to go for a (small) bet.
At the same days, there was also a horse trading show opposite in the street. This too was worthwhile seeing. Some horses were pretty expensive - probably with good reasons - anf others anly went a 3000 to 4000 euros. Yet, at first glace these look OK too.
Luckily we are no experts.
Good fun to watch the "master of ceremony" lead the bidding.
