Quaint museum

A nice little spot to see the history of the Normandy region and it’s peoples. Covers a big timeline. Visit takes about 45-1hr depending on your viewing of the displays. It’s part of the Chateau so worth a pop in and also cheap. Like 8 euro.

A great museum
Sep 2019
Worth visiting. The Normandy Museum is focused on history and society and provides a good panorama of the life of people living all over the Normandy region, from prehistoric times to the migrations of the early Middle Ages, the changes in the countryside and the first upheavals of the Industiral Revolution.

Interesting museum with archaeological and local crafts
Jul 2019 • Couples
The museum shows artefacts from over a period of a few thousand years, with some of the earliest arrow heads, bronze helmet and other archaeological finds, including a mammouth tooth. A section is also dedicated to the local craft of a more recent past, with ceramics and lace, of which the black lace is typical for this region. There is a separate building with special exhibitions. When we visited the exhibition was of paintings and old photographs of the city.

A step back to the dawn of time.

A really interesting museum of life in Normandie from pre-historic times up to the present. Particularly impressive is the collection of handmade lace and the little snippets of history surrounding wedding culture traditions in the area.

OK for a rainy day
Nov 2018 • Couples
The museum covers the history of the Normandy area from prehistoric times up to the time when it was mainly farmland. There were good English translations throughout. However, much of the history of this early period is common between our two countries so was already familiar to us.

Great museum

Telling the story of Normandy from pre-historic times through to the modern day, there are some magnificent displays in here, and enhances a visit to the Chateau wonderfully

Fairly ordinary but good for a walk about.

Not very stimulating unless you are in to early Normandy archaeology. Some good exhibits but as it is not very expensive is just about worth it.

Interesting museum
Aug 2018
A very interesting museum, particularly as it depicts some of the ancient/classical life in what is now Normandy! There seems to be a bit of a jump of a millennium as you go upstairs, but the social history is just as important.

Worth a visit if you find yourself with a spare hour in Caen!

Visit the Landings, Then Visit Museum
Jul 2018 • Couples
This museum goes hand in hand with the visit to the cemeteries along the Normandy Beaches. Make a day of this and don't miss out on the experience while you're here.
