Beautiful and interesting park. Great for kids. There are some animals to see (goats, cows, ducks and peacocks) I wouldn’t go especially for the animals but they’re a nice bonus! The park has well kept pathways around it and is well mapped out with a good amount of signs to help and boards telling about the history of the park with interesting old photos and displays. (It was built on a rubbish dump). There’s a nice play area and a maze, which the kids loved. At the entrance they had a merry-go-round and a couple of small attractions. We couldn’t spend long there sadly, but would have loved to have taken a picnic and spent a whole afternoon there. It’s well kept and beautiful.

We visited on a cold and gloomy day in November, but even then found this to be a delightful park. We spent about 1 1/2 hours there and did not have time to see everything. In addition to the scenic aspects there is a small farm area, mini-golf, a maze and a cafe.

We came to visit as we like parks and this is a highly rated attraction in Caen. We didn't really know what to expect; we were not disappointed. There is free parking across the Avenue de l'Amiral Mountbatten. I got the impression this would be really full on weekends and in summer. Entrance to the park is also free. There is a somewhat pointless "miniature Normandy" at the east end of the park. The park itself has a large hill in the middle of it. There are various paths leading up to the top. One we took explains how the park was built on a landfill site (what a great idea!) and has a sort of cave behind a glass screen which shows the rubbish the hill is made of. The name of the park, "Birds Hill" in English, refers to the fact that it used to be a large hill covered in birds scavenging off the waste. At the top of the hill there are nice views of the city of Caen to the southeast, in winter at least. Perhaps in the summer the foliage would reduce visibility. On the eastern side of the hilltop, we were surprised to find rather a large petting zoo, with goats, sheep, pigs, chickens and I think a donkey. Awesome. Further west there is an enormous rose garden (sadly dormant for our November visit) and a maze. I can only imagine how beautiful the rose garden would be when in full bloom. Local residents are lucky to have this on their doorstep. As the park is just off the Caen ring road, I would recommend to anyone who is passing by to stop and visit this park, even for just an hour. It's that good.

Well maintained diverse parc- we cycled here -up the hill, using routes on cycle map (we obtained from Tourist office for Caen) from where we cycled into Caen (racecourse by the Orne, down below) - worth the climb and it has cycle parking by the gate. Beautiful rose planted area by pond and wildflower areas. Toilets- in education facility (no running water (unsure if due to heatwave) or other dedicated for all visitors. A great demonstration of what can be done with rough ground. we went away with an idea for a new rose-Chantreuse de Parma- purple , beautiful scent.
