Absolutely Amazing Guide! Out Family of 7, kids 10-13, parents, grandparents, spent a fascinating day with our new friend Colin. I grew up practically memorizing “The Longest Day”, so many of the places and people were very familiar to me. Colin never missed a step, giving whatever details we wanted, yet was entertaining and solemn, as the situation warranted. We will only go back when Colin is available.

Colin was an amazing tour guide and host for our Normandy/D day tour. Look no further, he is amazingly well educated and knowledgeable of the history and the area. We did a one day tour, which included Omaha and Utah beaches and the German and American cemeteries. You could easily spend a week doing this if you are serious history buffs. For us one day was enough. He picked us up at the hotel (Villa Lara - also highly recommended) and dropped us off at the end. Highly recommended.

Excellent tour and we fully recommend. Very informative and thorough. We fit a lot into the same day, so we were tired at the end, but that was good thing, as we only had the 1 day to tour everything. We had gone to Mont Saint Michel the day before, and were heading the Paris the next day.
The only issue was a lack of communication in response to our request to confirm time and that everything was still going as planned. We had previously worked out a time and location, but that was two weeks prior to the day of the tour. However, it all worked out and it was an excellent tour.
We did take our kids, 9 and 11, and they were bored, but we fully expected that. Just keep that in mind if you take your kids, as I don't think anyone can make a kid overly interested in all the details of the D-Day invasion.

We spent a relaxing, lovely, rainy day with Colin. He was very knowledgeable and had an enjoyable commentary for the entire day. With that said, he was not 'overly talkative' and let us think through the experience with reverence and awe. We went to Normandy and saw Omaha Beach and the cemetery. I requested information about General Rudder and he was aptly prepared! He took us to a wonderful lunch place, and was just a delight to spend the day with!

My wife and I selected Colin as a private guide after a lot of research and speaking with several other guides. Colin, a British Ex-pat, speaks English and French which made the tour that much nicer. Over a couple weeks of excellent email communication, we had a general idea of what and where we wanted to see- and, of course, it was up to us how much we wanted to see. Mr. McGarry was at the port at the agreed time and we started a long day of seeing D-Day Normandy and a "Band of Brothers" type inland tour of different battle sites. I was immediately impressed with Colin's knowledge of WW2, especially D-Day and the months following the invasion. Some sites we visited included: Ste Mere Eglise, La Fière Bridge, Dead Man's Corner, Brecourt Manor, Carentan, Utah & Omaha Beaches, Colleville American Cemetery, Pointe du Hoc, and Longues Gun Battery. Mr. McGarry was familiar with all sites and described how the battles played out while we were standing in the area. Obviously, I had a long list of sites to visit, so we had less time for museums but we did manage to visit one or two for a short time. For a little more than what cruise ship passengers paid for a "Cattle Car" trip to the cemetery and back, we had a full day of seeing history's footprints. If I can ever get my father to Normandy, I will call on Colin again.

My husband extensively researched private tour guides for Normandy and the WWII Beaches, and decided on Colin McGarry. We were very happy with this choice!
Our group of four was picked up in LeHavre by Colin in his spotlessly clean, new Renault Espace van, and we spent nearly ten hours together.
Colin took us to the American Cemetery, Omaha and Utah Beaches, Pointe du Hoc, and a special side trip to the amazing Airborne Museum in Ste-Mare-Eglise.
At all times he was friendly, polite, and VERY knowledgeable. I will add that he's a great driver, too. Colin's passion for history came through, and we had a remarkably inspiring tour. Colin was agreeable to our requests for restroom and lunch stops, and answered every one of our questions.
Colin had an iPad and some visual materials in hand as he described the events of D-Day, June 6, 1944. He brought the experience to life for us!
We heartily recommend the services of Colin McGarry if you are looking for a private tour of Normandy.

Been on my bucket list to visit Normandy for a long time. Hired Colin for 3 days and the experience was well worth the cost.
From Pegasus Bridge to Utah Beach we saw as much as we could cram into 3 days. Colin's pictures and anecdotes about specific warriors and their deeds were really terrific !
Thanks Colin, an unforgettable experience !!

We spent two full days with Colin, visiting the invasion beaches, the war cemeteries, bunkers, and other D Day related sites. He drove his clean and comfortable car (which he will do for an extra fee), an arrangement that worked out very well for us. He is British, but lives in Normandy, and so brings an interesting perspective to the visit. Before arriving in France, he was helpful to us with recommendations for books to read, and museums to visit on our own before we linked up with him.
He took us to places we would not have thought of visiting, for instance, the very moving display at the abbey where a group of Canadian prisoners was murdered by the SS, and to the German war dead cemetery. My husband is a big fan of the Longest Day film, and Colin not only took us to key sites like St. Mere Eglise, and Pegasus Bridge, but had clips from the film on his iPad when questions arose about how things were depicted.
He was very knowledgable about the events of the invasion, the arms, especially the big guns which I really needed to see in person to appreciate, the German positions and preparations, and the allied positions and plans.
He is also very congenial company, not super talkative, but full of information and ready to share it. I highly recommend him.

Choosing two days allowed us to visit nearly the whole 75 miles of the d-day zone.

I am so glad we booked Colin for our tour of Normandy D-Day sites. He took us (2 couples) in his car to all the main spots plus several smaller, out of the way sites. He is extremely knowledgeable and made the tour very interesting. Although 2 of us already knew quite a bit about the invasion, he added many stories about individual soldiers and units that really brought it all to life for us. He, thankfully, presents the information in a calm, low-key manner, without getting too dramatic, like one guide whom we overheard a couple of times.
He took us to the American cemetery, timing our visit so we would be there at 4:30 for the lowering of the 2 American flags while tapps is played over the PA. It was so very moving. Take a hanky. Our tour started at 9:00 am and ended around 5:30 or 6:00 pm. We highly recommend using Colin for your guide!

We were lucky enough to book a day tour in Normandy w/ Colin McGarry and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Colin was waiting for us, as promised, on the pier as we exited the cruise ship. With 4 tall adults, we were very happy to see that a late model SUV-type auto was our transport for the day. We visited the key D-Day beaches as well as the German and American cemeteries. Colin has an almost encyclopedic knowledge of the conflicts and history of this region and we were all thrilled to have such an expert show us the different sights and beaches. You can book Colin's services with confidence. He is a gem!
