We had originally planned to self tour with our trusty Rick Steves guide but since we only had one full day in Normandy we made the excellent decision to splurge on an American DDay tour with Dale. I strongly recommend him. 9hours flew by without ever dragging. He clearly enjoys what he does and brings that passion to your day.

His mix of history, technical military knowledge, stories of personal moments, photos, maps, etc. was very compelling. I cried, I laughed, and I learned a lot. He is able to “set the scene” and make the history so much more real than any reading we had done. I know what a Widerstandnest is!

Dale has unique stops that aren’t on the standard loop and allow you to understand the the big picture. For example, I finally understand hedgerows and their importance after years of wondering why “big bushes” created so much havoc.

I could go on and one but you get the point. If he’s available and you can afford him, don’t read anymore reviews just do it.

My husband and I, and his brother and sister-in-law, hired Dale to provide us a 1/2 day tour of the WW II beaches. It was amazing. We all agreed that this was the highlight of our trip. He made sure to get to know all of us so that he could provide the most personal service. He allowed us to benefit from his knowledge. It was outstanding, and I recommend all who are interested in a truly wonderful experience, to use Dale Booth to guide your way.

Front start to finish this was hands down one of the very best guides I have ever retained. I've utilized private guides as a part of my travel experience from Israel, Turkey, England, Malta, Greece, and I think by now you get the idea. We came across Dale Booth who was recommended by Rick Steves France tour guide. Apparently, Rick uses Dale to guide the tours he runs to the Normandy Beaches. We only had time to see the American side of things: his book shows that he's equally capable of covering the British or Canadian sides of the invasion.

What I found out after booking but before taking his tour is that Dale co-authored a book on the Normandy invasion (D-DAY JUNE 6TH 1944: Following In The Footsteps Of Heroes (2014), available from Amazon among other places). I read it and loved it.

But the best was yet to come. My party of 4 booked a tour in November 2021, and he met us at the train station and, after we determined to stop by and get sandwiches for lunch, we got right into the tour. We used his minivan and at all the stops we made he would pop up his rear hatch and use photographs of the same area/house/road on D-Day along with other maps and media to flesh out the story of what had happened at that particular spot. And my whole group was just thrilled with the energy and fantastic attention to and retention of detail. His tour route does not replicate those taken by the large tour bus groups in that while some of the destinations are shared, the route he takes between stops was full of richer details from his commentary than keeping to the larger or main roads.

You would be very glad to retain his services if he has an opening in his schedule. Top Marks!

The tour itself hit all the highlights and gave you what you expected but it also exposed us to lesser-known events with powerful stories. Taken together, the collection of sites coupled with the insightful, charismatic, and deeply knowledgeable guide (Dale Booth) made our Normandy tour the highlight of our trip. Even the people in our group that are indifferent about history were captivated by Dale’s presentation and left wanting to learn even more. I would recommend Dale Booth Tours to anyone going to Normandy and I would like to go back and take additional tours with him. I can't praise this tour enough!

Dale is an excellent tour guide with great insights into the battle fought in Normandy. We chose a tour of the American beaches and some of the paratrooper landing zones. Dale explained both the big picture of the battle for both sides but also explained the tactics that each side utilized to achieve their goals. Thankfully, the Allied plan succeeded and the Germans were forced back. Even though I thoroughly enjoyed the tour, I would recommend trying to reserve two days of touring. The American sites that we visited were great, but there is a lot more to see including sites at the British and Canadian beaches and many sites inland that were important as the battle developed over the next couple of months. Our group had two novice historians and two people who barely knew the basics. Dale presented in such a way that both groups were engaged and interested. I consider myself a fairly knowledgeable history buff and I was very impressed with Dale's depth of knowledge.

We had such an amazing tour with Dale in Normandy touring the American sites. It is worth every penny and he goes the extra mile to maximize the time during your tour. He is extremely knowledgeable, shares so many amazing pictures, and can customize the tour to your interests. Dale gives 100% during the entire day - our kids (10 and 6) enjoyed the tour so much, and they even commented that the day flew by. I wish I had had this experience as a kid, to really understand all of this history in Normandy and during the World Wars. We are so glad we booked this tour and would highly recommend it. I can’t imagine you would find a better guide.

If you only have one opportunity to visit the D Day sites, whether it be American, British or Canadian sectors (or any combination thereof), this is your guide. Sheer passion combined with unparalleled knowledge of the subject matter and his uncanny ability to convey that information in a linear fashion, Dale Booth is simply amazing. A true master class on the subject. If you're going to travel a long distance to view the sites, you simply cannot do it any better than with Mr Booth.

Our family of 5 did the American tour with Dale in June 2022. It was an incredible experience! He was so knowledgeable and informative about the D-Day beaches and locations. We learned so much from him including personal stories he's gained over the years from veterans who were there. Dale's passion about D-Day was evident without being info-overload. His approach really made history come alive and we were all so moved by the day. We highly recommend taking his tour and we want to come back to do more of his other tours.

My wife and I spent a day on a private 1 day American tour with Dale in September. From the beginning of the day to the end, Dale kept us fascinated with the stories and sights of the D-Day invasion. Dale brings such passion and knowledge of the invasion to the tour it gives you a sense of what took place during that fateful time. We cannot wait to come back to France to take the British tour with Dale.

Dale Booth tours was the highlight our our trip to Normandy! He was on time, informative and was engaged throughout the day with stories, lessons and personal narratives. We knew about D -Day , but we did not KNOW about D-day until Dale explained about the German bunker positions, hedge rows, and his personal connection and stories about the everyday heros who made D-day a miracle. We highly recommend Dale Booth tours if you are in Normandy. Thanks to Rick Steves for the initial recommendation!
