Mike was an exceptionable tour guide for our Normandy visit. His knowledge of WW II and the events that took place was A +++!
It was an all day tour ending with Taps at the US cemetery which was extremely moving.
Would recommend Allied Victory Tours without hesitation. The van for our group was clean comfortable and safe.

I came back to Normandy this summer and stayed / camped at Mike's B&B (Le Pont de la Pierre Vintage B&B) and we did a day trip tour of Omaha beach - once again I learned so much - Mike is just an excellent tour guide. We spent 4 hours on Omaha beach going from one end to the other. Mike pointed out places that few tourist will ever see or notice. I had my dog with me and Mike accommodated the tour to fit in my 4 legged friend.

You can do no better than to book your tour with Mike. He is knowledgeable, friendly and won't try to belittle you for not knowing something. Mike has years of being a guide on his side and the perfect guide for whatever your need. Book a room at the B&B for a package deal you will not regret.

Mike was the second tour guide I’ve experienced in Normandy, and did not disappoint. He has extensive knowledge of the key events and personalities that influenced D-Day. This made the history come alive in way that engaged both me and my 16 year old son. Everything from the itinerary to the vehicle to his personality were absolutely excellent.

We travelled to France in November with the primary focus being a tour of D-Day American battle sites, long a wish of mine. My son is a skillful traveler and my family had originally planned to tour the battle sites on our own, but I wanted my family, especially our young adult children, to gain an understanding of the sacrifice and magnitude of the events of D-Day. I read about different private tours and after reading Mike’s reviews, bio, and tour itinerary, I decided to go with Mike and his full-day tour option and I was fortunate to make that choice. The reviews are completely accurate and the bio speaks to his extensive personal knowledge and interest, so reading them is helpful.

Mike is a natural tour guide with an engaging personality and deep knowledge of D-Day history. He converses easily with different ages. This isn’t just a business for him, his passion and respect are genuine. He picked us up in his van and while getting to know us, provided interesting anecdotes and backstories via a sound system that allowed everyone to hear clearly as we drove to the different sites so even the drive was interesting. I liked Mike’s approach to the tour, with the day ending with the lowering of the flag at the American cemetery, but he Is flexible and tailors the tour to what you want to do and see (He’ll also provide good lunch suggestions. And if the sausage truck is in the Sainte-Mère-Eglise courtyard when you’re there, we highly recommend!). I have read quite a bit about D-Day but I learned interesting facts I had never heard before, and my family came away with an informative, moving, unforgettable experience.

If you go in November, expect intermittent rain and chilly temperatures on the beaches but less crowds. If you’re dressed properly you’ll be fine.

We highly, highly recommend Mike and his tour! Well worth it.

PHENOMENAL TOUR! I can't recommend Mike (Allied Victory Tours) highly enough. He is a walking encyclopedia of WWII knowledge who masterfully humanizes the stories behind D-Day invasion and makes them come to life. He completely personalized the tour on the fly based on our interests and background. For instance, upon learning my grandfather served on the Navy during D-Day, he was able to find additional information and help tell about his role and experience that we hadn't previously known. We collectively left the tour having gained so much knowledge and a greater appreciation for those who served and fought for our freedom. One of the best tours we've ever been on!

Mike is an extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide, and his tour was the high point of our trip to France (a trip that had a lot of high points). On June 28 Mike took my wife and I to the Canadian landing sites at Courseulles, Bernières and Saint-Aubin, as well as the Juno Beach Centre and Arromanches; inland, we visited the Bény-sur-Mer Canadian War Cemetery and Ardenne Abbey, where 20 Canadian soldiers were executed by the SS shortly after the invasion. Although we covered a lot of ground, we never felt rushed - Mike was very accommodating with his time. He is a fountain of information, which for us made all the difference between merely visiting places or reading about them, and having a deeper appreciation of them. D-Day was a collective effort of many nations working together, and we would love to come back and book further tours with Mike of the American and the British beaches.

We took an early train in from Paris, and Mike van den Dobblesteen met us at the Bayeux train station and took us for a quick coffee to get the trip started. Then we started in the village of Angovile-au-Plain where we learned the amazing story of two American 101st Airborne medics, Bob Wright and Ken Moore, the angels of mercy who turned the a small Catholic church into a medical aide center on D-Day and treated both wounded American and Germans troops.

Then we proceeded to Saint Mere Eglise, Utah Beach, the cliffs of Pointe du Hoc, Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery.

Mike was the consummate guide and host. It was like being with an old friend who might as well be a PhD professor in all things related to Operation Overlord. Not only was Mike one of the most knowledgable people you'll ever meet on D-Day, but he frames the stories about the heroic actions of the Allied troops in a way that grips your attention and makes you want to learn even more.

Hearing the stories and details of people such as Col. James Rudder, who led the charge of Rangers to scale the cliffs at Pointe du Hoc and to capture German guns and fight off the enemy for more than two days until reinforcements arrived was riveting. It was an honor to be there and see the dagger memorial where President Reagan also stood during his 1984 speech there when he honored these heroes.

Walking on the sacred ground of Omaha Beach and seeing the challenge our troops had fighting Germans holed up in machine gun nests was also particularly poignant. It's hard to express the feelings and gratitude we had into words.

Further, it was also a privilege to visit the American Cemetery, where 9,388 heroes are buried. It's one of the most beautiful settings you'll ever visit with the cross and Star of David gravesites and a beautiful reflecting pond, memorial and chapel — and the English Channel in the background. We were honored to be there when they lowered the flags in the late afternoon and played Taps. We felt proud and patriotic.

As an aside, Mike took us to a wonderful boulangerie for lunch and drove us around in a clean, comfortable and spacious van. We couldn't have asked for more. The entire day and tour was first rate and is highly recommended.

11 friends traveled to France from the US and we booked a full day D-Day Tour with Mike van den Dobbelsteen of Allied Victory Tours. We exchanged several emails prior to arrival and Mike made sure our tour was everything we dreamed it would be. He was always prompt to reply. We took a train from Paris to Bayeux where we were met by Mike for our wonderful tour. He took us to Utah Beach, Omaha, Beach, Pointe du hoc and the American cemetery. The vehicles are quite comfortable and we had history lessons while driving to each of the sites. Mike is very enthusiastic about the history of the area and events of WWII and very knowledgeable. We left Normandy quite moved by our experience and well versed by our outstanding guide. I hope everyone gets to experience this incredible tour with Mike some day. You will not find a better tour guide.
