The entire day was excellent! We visited Bayeux in mid-July, and knew the D-Day tour was top on our list. Jonathan was very knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate about the history. We visited several sites, and even had time for a local lunch. I would highly recommend booking this tour to anyone who is interested in visiting the D-Day sites in Normandy. A local guide like Johnathan makes the experience much more enjoyable than trying to visiting everything on your own. Plus, he drives a big comfortable van, is very easy to work with, and will accommodates specific requests to customize your tour. Highly recommend!

Jonathan was extremely knowledgeable and very personable. He clearly has a passion for the subject and being a native of Bayeux is such a plus. We were on a tour with our University’s women’s basketball team and he was able to keep the attention of 19 to 21 year olds, which is remarkable in itself. Any WW2 history buff would benefit from this tour.

Wow, what a great tour and expert guide!!!! Our group hit the lottery with Jonathan of Normandy History Tours! We had the extraordinary experience of spending a couple of days exploring the region and learning from someone who really knows what he's talking about. What made this tour so great is that Jonathan understands how to teach in a way that kept a large group engaged and eager to hear more. Together we visited Omaha and Utah beaches -- two must see places for everyone -- especially those interested in military history in general and WW2 history specifically. To be honest, prior to visiting those sites, I did not know how much I would be interested, beyond feeling tremendous sadness about the loss of human life there in June 1944. Truth is I just assumed I'd end up a puddle of tears as I contemplated how frightening D-Day must have been for the soldiers who changed the world with their bravery and faith. While I did cry, what I didn't expect was how captivated I would be by Jonathan's lively description of the Allied Force's lucky accidents and calculated strategies. I feel <<very lucky>> to have learned so much from him. His passion for this subject has inspired me to learn more. I am both surprised and grateful for that. Part of what impressed me about Jonathan was his moving talk during our visit to La Cambe, the grave site of the German soldiers who lost their lives in Normandy during WW2. While I am a proud American and profoundly thankful that Hitler was defeated, I do recognize that many Germans did not support the Nazis. I definitely understand that many German soldiers were conscripted without their consent and did not in fact support Hitler’s murderous rampage. I am glad that Jonathan is sophisticated enough to make that clear during the tour he crafted for our 100% American group. Another highlight of Jonathan’s Normandy tour was a visit to Mont-Saint-Michel, a storybook-beautiful commune and tidal island off northwestern France. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this is one tour stop you should not miss — especially if you are lucky enough to explore this truly extraordinary, dream-like property with a guide like Jonathan. Because he’s naturally smart and as knowledgable as any scholar, Jonathon is well suited to lead the way as you ascend the dizzying heights of this medieval Christian site that was originally built in the 8th century as an homage to archangel Michel. Today it is a bustling town — or maybe even a smaller city — complete with a pilgrimage of visitors speaking every language you can imagine, an abbey with a breathtaking view and 50+ other buildings, including quaint shops, restaurants and at least one hotel. With so much going on there, I loved hearing Jonathan talk about its Mont-Saint-Michel’s incomparable history and unconquered place in the 100 Years War. Finally, with my curiosity piqued, now that I am back home, I am very thankful that Jonathan was able to recommend films and books that will help augment what I learned from him. As a lifelong learner I feel like someone opened me to a world of history that up until now I knew very little about.
