As this is an active military installation you can walk around the 17th century battlements, the fort is in the shape of a star, typical of the era, its a tranquil walk around with the forrest taking over again with the outer walls and a...More

Since the Citadel is still an active military installation visitors are limited to walking around the Vole des Combattants, surrounding the inner wall of fortification. It is never the less worth the visit, and if you are active can enjoy the walk or join with...More

As everyone has said, and the tourist information is quite clear about, you can't actually gain entry to the Citadel. However you can stroll along through the Bois de Boulogne with and independent air and enjoy the tranquility of the stream/moat around the military installation....More

The Citadelle is very large ,strong , and nice to stroll around to see the extent of the city defences put up by Vauban. However, as the area is still used by the military, you can't access the central part which really limits this to...More

The Citadel is huge and in the centre of a park where one can walk or run around (this is very popular with runners!) At the edge of the park is the zoo.

Shame you can't go inside, and it was fairly confusing to navigate the grounds to even find the path that surrounds the structure. **When you get to the park entrance head left through the children's play area and towards the zoo. At the zoo entrance...More

FYI - you can't go inside the citadel as it is an active army base. However, it is very beautiful to walk around it and the park is a really nice place to go on a sunny day.

Lovely walk around the old ramparts- huge project of refurbishment planned to restore the star shape including the moat. Paths regularly used by joggers. As previous people have mentioned there is NO access inside as it is a working base by the RRF (a bit...More
