Today’s white facade was added in 1959 to cover this 1892 marketplace, enhancing its clean look. We strolled the interior aisles finding most vender shops to admire and many to stop and inspect; Fish & Seafood, Cheese, Breads & Pastries, Fruit & Veggies, Fresh & cured Meats and even Beer and Wine. We ended up at “Chez Sylvain”, purchasing a grande vegetarian($10) to take back to our apartment for lunch.
There is something for everyone in this clean, friendly atmosphere.

If love cooking or just good food, a place to go. From foie gras, to fantastic fish, from great bread to even better cheese selection... and do not miss all the butcher with their specialties
Most of the product are local... and if you need a marche type food, just go try one of the restaurant on the second floor.

This market is a mix of locals going about their shopping and tourists exploring and taking photos. There's lots of diverse food on display, as there are cafes outside so you can make an outing of it. When I was there late on a June Sunday around 11 am, it was pretty crowded, and there was a brass band playing, unexpectedly, "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen.
It's certainly an experience, but if you're not a big foodie, you could get away with skipping it.
There was also an outdoor market with a lot of similar products going on Sunday morning along the Bdde de Strasbourg, which was also crowded but open air.

We always head to the market in cities and towns for some free entertainment. French markets never disappoint for the variety of produce and the presentation. Victor Hugo is an exceptional market with dazzling displays of cheese, poultry and meats. The stall holders work hard to provide high quality produce representing the French demand for the best. It's a great way to spend 1-2 hours in a new city.

Great market selling a wide range of food, from regional cheeses and breads to pre-prepared meals and sweet treats. Not attractive from the outside as a very 70’s looking building above a car park, but the produce is stunning and very reasonably priced.
There are restaurants on the second floor but they open at midday so no use visiting for coffee and cake!
A 15 minute walk from the train station on the way into Toulouse centre.

If you haven’t been at the Marche Victor Hugo, you miss part of Toulouse. It is a very attractive place to spend lunch, especially on a Sunday noon. Get yourself a dozen of fresh oysters in the hall and then get a lovely lunch on the 1st floor. The food is good (I haven’t been in all restaurants), nothing extraordinary but correct. The atmosphere however, breaths Toulouse and a lot of locals enjoy to get lunch there. Absolutely recommended!

Honestly, we did not go in as were late since it is only open from morning (?) to 1 pm, but managed to glance through an open door.
If you are living in Toulouse or have rented an Airbnb this is of interest to buy fresh things, or perhaps eat on the spot.
Being world travelers who have seen such markets in Madrid, Barcelona, Cannes and Budapest, and even with a day to spare, we will skip it.

If you are a Foodie, then this place is your idea of heaven.
The stalls inside this covered market sell the finest produce that France has got to offer,
Wine, cheese, the freshest seafood, charcuterie, fine chocolate, you name it, it is found in abundance here.
There are also a number of restaurants on the first floor. Paradise!

What an amazing place! So much lovely, fresh produce. All the food items are well displayed on the stalls and the prices I looked at seemed fair. It was rather busy so I recommend going early.

Very much like Philadelphia's Reading Terminal market- all sorts of vendors and places to eat. Crowded and more expensive than rural markets, but this is in the heart of a big city. Don't miss it, if only to see the abundance and variety France has to offer.

Is the market open every day and what times
Written July 21, 2017
I think the market is open every day but the best times to go are early in the morning when it's busy and produce are the freshest, after 1pm there isn't much happening.

i was staying close to this market,so i walked but when we checked in at night it took us 20 mins by taxi with no traffic

Hi, is this market open on Sundays.
Written February 2, 2016
Yes on Sundays morning... Better to be there before 10 am and avoid the crowd. You can also have lunch upstairs in one of the many tiny Bistros offering local dishes. Unsure about the Bistros open on Sunday noon but all week long yes.
