We visited the station twice to book tickets to Carcassonne and Albi while we were staying in Toulouse. There was a lot of construction going on and at first it was difficult to find the ticket office as all the signs were in French. But when we did the staff were very helpful and showed us how to make reservations and save money.
The building you see today was built between 1903 and 1905, by Marius Toudoire with stone taken from the Roman city of Saintes and it replaced an older and smaller building. On the front of the building are the 26 coats of arms of the 26 destinations that Midi served.
The station is connected to the underground Marengo SNCF station on Line A of the Toulouse Metro, accessible from inside and just outside the station.

TIP: when booking tickets book as a group it getts you a great discount.

This is a fairly standard French railway station, so it’s difficult to rate it as anything above “average”. It houses a fairly small but sufficient seating area, and a small shop for food/drink and other relevant purchases. For the visiting tourist, however, there are two specific things it’s useful to know:

Firstly, it is co-located with the underground station named Marengo on Line A. It’s not obvious from maps that this is the case – the underground map for Line a simply shows the station as “Marengo – SNCF”. So, if you’re arriving by air at Toulouse Blagnac airport and are travelling onwards by train, you just need to make your way to Matabiau/Marengo station. Which leads to the second useful point …

When you arrive at Blagnac airport, there are two easy options (other than a taxi) for getting to Matabiau/Marengo. There’s an airport bus that takes you directly to the station (via some intermediate stops). It leaves every 20 minutes, takes between 20 and 45 minutes depending on traffic, and costs 8 Euro. Alternatively, there’s a tram stop and a ticket machine – plus a helpful ticket office – outside the arrivals hall. You can buy a tram/underground combined ticket for 1.7 Euro. Get the tram to Arenes station (nine stops) and then transfer to underground Line A (six stops) to Matabiau/Marengo. If you’re familiar with the London underground, it’s easy-peasy and – even if you’re not – it’s pretty simple.

it is easy to find your train , the information center staff are friendly & helpful , there is free wifi in the "gare" but you have to register & it was a painfull process , but it worked real good once completed so i could join my friends to come get me at my next stop in Muret gare , unfortunately there is not much seating & most of em are occupied by non travellers squatting the place for heat off the street .

No ticket office, rude staff! We bought a ticket to Carcassonne and arrived in lent of time. The ticket was expensive and the machine did not indicate it could only be used on a regional train. Barrier staff so rude and would not let us board despite being the same train company and forced to wait over 30 minutes for a slow train

Trains from Toulouse to other parts of France can be taken here. It is also connected to Marengo SNCF Metro station and is easier to commute.

Had a walk to see this ornate looking station which was about 200 metres from our hotel Pulman. Lots of heraldic shields around the top of the outside

For two mornings, I watched uncomprehendingly each train I was supposed to catch disappeared from the arrivals screen. I searched on the SNCF ticket machine to find my train was canceled. I then booked the next train which was canceled an hour later. After a couple of hours, I walked about the station until I found an Info booth where a long line of people waited. When I got to the counter, I was told all morning trains were canceled. they didn't bother to announce this.

The next morning, the same thing happened. This time, the Info representative told me there was a strike. I had no idea! It would have been helpful for someone to post this info so all of us tourists didn't waste hours staring dumbly at the monitors wondering what was going on.

Building is pretty, place is nice, though there's some construction going on. Easy access to taxis, and a short drive to the city center.

My partner and I have just arrived here after taking the overnight train from Paris. We’ve two large suitcases each plus a small bag as we’re traveling to a wedding (and have been away for over a week already). I have a problem with my hip which means I find stairs difficult. There’s no lift or escalator access from the platform to the main concourse. The rail staff would not allow us to use the service elevator and when I told them (in French) that I couldn’t use the stairs they just shrugged. No one offered to help with our bags or even point us in the direction of an alternative exit. To make matters worse, the ATM has just eaten my partner’s debit card. We’re not loving Toulouse so far....

Main station for Toulouse. You can find your way round quite well. Toilets are not free but change is provided. Some seating in the waiting area and on the platforms.
