We always try to visit a church or three when visiting most anywhere in Europe. It seems that most every building in Montauban is built with brick and this is another example and it is gigantic as well. We thought it was quite attractive for...More

Built in the 13th century, shortly after the founding of Montauban. This massive church on a fortified base still bears traces of cannonballs fired during the siege of 1621 by Louis XIII. It is built in brick like most buildings in the city and has...More

A large church with an impressive bell tower. My husband was interested in the holes left by the 16th century canonballs. Inside it is large church with painted plaster walls, which are however in need of some restoration. The stained glass is largely Victorian. But...More

Like the nearby cathedral, this is huge. The walls still have much of the early painting although glass appears more recent. WWI memorial inside with - unusually - exact dates of death of local men.

Montauban - despite being a town by UK size - has superb churches and a number of them. The coolness and calm quality which pervades such old stone is amazing to visit and contemplate - even though I am not religious

Very impressive red brick building which was the cathedral before the white stone cathedral was built. Canon ball damage from Louis XIII's siege is visible on the exterior. Unusual mural on the front over the doors. Couldn't get in on a Sunday Morning.
